Crazy Anything Day!
Joy & Connection
We have had a wonderfully full week! Student Council's Crazy Anything Spirit Day was a huge success (confirmed by Room 4's class selfie above)! Way to show your school spirit everyone!
We are in the homestretch of the last 7 weeks of school. I had it incorrect in the last OFC! That's 33 days of school left, people. There is much to do! Next week is Earth Week, Spring Fling is just around the corner, CAASPP testing begins next week for 4/5, Book Fair, Temple Grandin Author Visit, and then we have 2/3 Simulation Day, Puberty Talks, Promotion, oh my!
Next week is also Staff Appreciation week. I am beyond grateful for our teachers and staff who have been working over full capacity. They are maintaining the joy, comfort, and enthusiasm for learning for students in the midst of a pandemic, uncertainty, and much angst in our world. Ohlone students are happy, engaged, and excited about school. They are growing, learning, and continuing on their trajectory of developing into well-rounded global citizens who consider the perspectives of others and celebrate learning about each other. It is our parent-staff partnership that makes Ohlone go 'round. Hats off to you as well!
Today is the Family Leadership Summit and the beginning of our online Ohlone Book Fair. Additional details are below.
It's not too late to join us in the sunshine for Farm Work Day today. No experience necessary. All hands appreciated. Sign-up here! I hope to see you there :).
Thank you to our in-person learning families for filling out your child's health screener every morning by 7:45am. It helps us immensely and saves valuable class time for your children.
Have a great weekend!

Aptly named Equity for Academic Success as the sessions in this day of the series revolve around the idea of truly teaching every child. The breakdown of sessions on this day will focus on supporting diverse learners, teaching the whole child, bringing culture into the classroom, breaking down cultural barriers and biases, and the pathway towards college and career success.
Day 2 - Student Equity Challenge
The question to discuss at home this week is "How do you feel about yourself? At home? At school? How do you think students of color feel? At home? At school?" Here is the link to the website and book list.
Please also feel free to explore the Equity Book List for other titles of interest!

Health Screeners - Parent Square
Students will continue to enter and exit the same gates for drop-off and pick-up. Students must continue to wait at the gates for them to be "opened" by a staff member. We will be welcoming students onto campus at approximately 8:10am.
If your child's health screener is not completed, their teacher will send them to the office to wait while we call you to confirm. Students miss valuable class time when they need to wait outside of the office, so please be sure to complete this critical step before you leave for school. Here are some easy to digest reminders:
- Complete your child's health screener no later than 7:45am each school morning.
- Students will enter and exit through the same gates. Wait for the green light from an adult.
- Students will continue to use hand sanitizer before entering campus.
- Students will wait outside the classroom to have their health screener checked by teacher.
- Students with uncompleted screeners will be sent to office to wait for parent confirmation.
- For pick-up, please have your last name clearly visible on your dashboard.
Puberty Talks for 4th & 5th Grade - Message from District Nurse
We are pleased that students will have the opportunity to participate in Puberty Talk Distance Learning, an online course developed by Health Connected in response to COVID-19. Puberty Talk Distance Learning has been adapted from the original Puberty Talk course, and integrated into five live webinars. It also includes additional follow-up assignments that can be completed at each student’s own pace. Lessons have been developed in accordance with the California Health Education Content Standards for “Growth, Development and Sexual Health” and the California Education Code.
If you would like to know more, a parent information session via webinar will take place on Wednesday April 21st from 5:30-6:30 pm and Monday April 26th from 5:30-6:30 pm.
