Missoula Writing Collaborative
Over the past six weeks the 3rd and fourth grade classes have been able to work with an author in conjunction with the Missoula Writing Collaborative to work on writing poetry. Once a week Sam Dunnington has been coming in to work with each class individually. The students have really enjoyed this time and they are now even writing poetry in some of their free writing! Here are a few of the amazing poems written by the students as their final product.
Happy Birthday
Happy birthday
Your mom gave you gifts
She loves you so much so she gave you a RC car
And other gifts too
But the most best gift was your family
--Charlie Quick, 3rd Grade
I would like to go inside my eye
It might be gross to some, not me!
I would live there, sleep, eat, and play if I could.
But I see with my eye.
I live up here.
It might smell good or bad, it might look cool
But what would I eat? What would I play?
What if I can't live in my eye?
--Caleb Durovey, 3rd Grade
When I had no home, a huge bell would be my home.
When I had no pillow, the pile of dust would be my pillow.
When I would have no blanket, a dead deer would be my blanket.
When I would have no light, a wild star would be my light.
When I have no clothes, mud and dirt would be my clothes.
When I had no family, it would be a horse family and that's that!
--Sydney Billette, 3rd Grade
When I had no home, nature became my home.
When I had no friends, my knife and axe became my friends.
When I had nowhere to sleep, the squishy moss became my bed.
When I had no food, I would hunt for my food.
When I had no fire, I used the rocks to make my fire.
When I had no family the animals became my family.
When I had no shelter, the trees became my shelter.
When I had no life, I found it in the woods.
When I had no eyes, I used the elk eyes I found.
When I had no arms, I used bear arms.
When I had no legs, I used a buck's strong back legs.
When I had no hat, I used a wolf head.
--Cael Crabb, 4th Grade
Applesauce
I am sorry I ate your applesauce
I feel really bad.
But the texture feels so nice in my mouth,
Nice and cold
Tasted like sweet apples
Smelled like a yummy fruity apple.
I AM SORRY!
-- Mason Nakasone, 4th Grade
The gift that everyone loves.
The gift that makes people happy.
The gift that brings people together.
The gift that brings joy in the world.
The gift that brings happiness.
The gift that brings kindness.
The gift that brings niceness.
The gift that’s just right for you.
--Madi Allard, 4th Grade
