Serving students with exceptional needs in CUSD
COVID Recovery Services
Welcome to ConnectED! This quarter will be one of reflection as we examine any potential loss in instruction during the 4th quarter of the 2019-2020 school year, as well as the 1st quarter of the 2020-2021 school year. Teachers will be hard at work monitoring students and collecting data to assist them in determining progress on IEP goals. CUSD plans to offer COVID Recovery Services to those students who demonstrate a significant loss in skills as a result of school closure. This is not an official IEP team process, but your input will be important! Recovery services will focus on the amount of time required for students to recoup skill levels achieved prior to the closure. This may result in additional time for students to work on those skills.

Gifted Services Update
This November we will continue with the Kindergarten Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Testing (NNAT-3). We started administering the NNAT-3 two years ago, in order to expand our identification practices for gifted services. To ensure that we are providing students with all possible educational opportunities in CUSD, we are pairing the NNAT-3 with the CogAT to identify students with emerging talent as early as possible. This assessment will be provided to students in selected piloted schools and is not available to all kindergarten students. You will be notified by your school if your Kindergartner will have the opportunity to participate.
