Rattler News
Week of November 9th, 2020
Message from Mrs. Chavira, Campus Principal
Rattler Community,
We are ready to start our third week of our second marking period. I hope you were able to meet last week with your child's teacher for our Parent Conferences. If you have not met with your child's teacher, please make sure you accept one of their conference invitations. It has always been critical that we establish a strong school/home connection. Continue to reach out to our campus for any questions or support as we maneuver through remote learning this year.
Our teachers have been outstanding as we work through our remote learning instruction. For this reason, when your child's class must be assigned to a substitute temporarily, it may cause a disruption, or you may feel disconnected to the system the teacher has set up. In the event your child's teacher will be unavailable for an extended period, the substitute will take over the ClassDojo Account to be able to continue the teachers communication systems. If your child's teacher will only be out for a few days to a week, we ask that you email administration and we will get the message to our Campus Substitute.
This week we will be celebration GENTX Week and will have spirit dress-up days for the week. Please see our days below. We encourage our students to take part, tweet their pictures or send them to their teachers or administration to share.
We will also be starting our afterschool intervention sessions. (2:45 to 3:30). If your child is invited, I encourage you to allow your child to connect for a few additional minutes so that their teacher can provide targeted support during this time.
Finally, students will not have class on Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veteran's Day. On behalf of the Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary family, we want to thank our Veteran's and our military families for their service.
We thank you for your trust and support in TEAMSISD and Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary.
Respectfully,
Cristina Sanchez-Chavira

Message from our Counselors
Rattler Community,
If your circumstances have changed due to COVID19 and you are in need of assistance Operation Shook is available for our families. We will be distributing winter coats in December, if your child is in need of one please complete form below.
Operation Shook Program is a school community effort to make everyone’s beginning of the school year and holiday’s a special time. If you could benefit from additional economic assistance this year, we would like you to provide your name along with ages, sizes, and any special needs of your family to the program. We cannot guarantee assistance or the purchase of certain items, but this does allow us to better match families’ needs with what agencies have to offer.

SISD DEVICES
- The district is issuing devices for ALL SISD students.
- All students will require to bring a device when we return to campus (this year or next year). For this reason, we encourage all students to pick-up their device.
- Throughout the year, students will need access to testing programs and applications. SISD devices will automatically have access to these programs and applications.
If you have not yet received your district device, please submit the link below or call the campus at 937-7100.

Please make sure you read the instructions carefully and state your Teacher's Name and your Grade level.
Teacher Conference Periods
Starting MP2, Teacher Conference Periods will be moved from 2:45-3:30 to a staggered schedule throughout the day. Every day students will have an Enrichment/PE Block. that last 45 minutes. During this time slot students will complete one of following Monday-Thursday.
- Counseling Class every week (30 min/15 min Lexia)
- Library Class every two weeks (30 min/15 min Lexia)
- Music Class every two weeks (30 min/15 Min Lexia)
- Physical Education three times a week (45 min)
This week lessons will be pre-recorded. We hope that next week our lessons can go live.
Once students have completed their assigned enrichment course (student paced or live lesson), students will log into Lexia to work on their Lexia Goals. This time will vary depending on the enrichment lesson. If you would like for students to work on their Lexia at a different time, you can do that as well. We thank you for your support as we transition to this new schedule.
Rattler Round-up Support
We are excited to start our Rattler Round-up this marking period and provide additional support to our Rattlers. Rattler round-up will give teacher the opportunity to work with students at all levels and provide targeted support. Rattler Round-up will occur every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:45 to 3:30. You will notice that teachers will be doing one of the following during this period.
- Working with a group of kids for the complete 30- 45 minutes.
- Work with multiple groups for 20-25 minutes
- Your child may be assigned to a group instructed by other campus personnel (ex. SCEI Coaches, Counselors, Librarian, Principal, Assistant Principal, CIS, Teacher Support Personnel).
Teachers will be reaching out to parents through ClassDojo or phone calls to invite students to attend. We encourage all that are invited to attend. We will not be sending out permission slips, as students will be receiving support during our regular schedule and the support will be done virtually.
Rattler Round-up will begin next week. We look forward to providing the additional support to our Rattlers.
School Meal Program
We continue to offer free meal service to all children ages 0-18. We will continue to serve from 7am to 11am. We hope this will help accommodate your child's remote learning schedule and provide free meals to more families.
