NEWS THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD OF CAREER & COLLEGE READINESS
The Benefits of Career and Technical Education Programs for High Schoolers
The “vocational education” of years ago has evolved from wood shop and home economics into a powerful educational reform tool. Some 8.3 million high school students participated in what are now called career and technology education, or CTE, pathways in 2020-2021, up from 7.5 million the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

JUNIORS & SENIORS! Young Women and Young Men and the Workforce Field Trips
Operating Engineers 324- MICCD Field Trip
WHAT IS MICCD?
Since 2008, MI Construction Career Days has been Michigan’s premiere construction career exploration event. Based on the National Career Day model, MICCD provides Michigan’s young people a chance to experience construction up-close, getting the chance to use real tools, materials and heavy equipment under the direct guidance of construction professionals from all sectors of the industry. These young people will not only see what construction is, but learn of the training and education paths to secure the good paying jobs a career in construction provides.
USE YOUR XELLO PROFILE TO SEE HOW YOUR INTERESTS, PERSONALITY, & SKILLS ALIGN WITH A VARIETY OF CAREERS
CAREER EXPLORATION WITH XELLO
For many students, career awareness is not just showing them jobs that are related to ones they’ve thought about. It’s about expanding their realm of possibility for their entire future. We all know career awareness isn’t a new concept. Remember parent career days?
While this is still a great practice, students may only be learning about careers within their specific community. This is why career fairs, focused career weeks, in-school mentorship, as well as accessible tools like Xello are great for allowing students to broaden their scope of knowledge of the various career pathways out there.
POSITIVITY PROJECT: Love of Learning
Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize of a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.
Developing a love of learning is highly beneficial for an individual. It means that they are intrinsically motivated to deepen their existing skills and abilities, or learn something completely new. Since intrinsically motivated action is correlated with positive emotions, those who act on their love of learning may also have enhanced mental and physical health. Additionally, individuals who love learning have the desire and ability to overcome challenges, due to a sense of autonomy and control over their environment.
