Staffing
Highlights of the 2017-2018 School Year
- Curated and established STEM and Interactive book collections. Promoted circulation and expanded the Hispanic American and bilingual collections
- Created "Powered Up and Future Ready" Events and provide rewards to classes
- Collaborated with Brookhaven Public Librarian for Fall Festival table at Cross Keys
- Established an on-line Office 365 Media Center Calendar for class sign ups
- Created Makerspace featuring Wonder Robots programming with iPads
- Created Collaboration Stations for students to work independently
- Live Skype with Award Winning Author Nancy Krulik through Microsoft Educators
- Nearly 1,000 students and Faculty attended library orientation modeling use of the new makerspace, collaboration stations, professional work and whole group areas, featured collections, resources available, and library procedures
Our library is a collaborative center of learning and activity. This year we have enjoyed collaborations with students, staff and community to provide new services and events in the library. Special events that encouraged and promoted independent reading and thinking included Collaboration Stations including monthly periodicals containing high interest informational text, an Engineering Design Process themed Makerspace with Robots and iPad technology, Volunteer and Professional work areas along with whole group instructional areas and a live Skype with an Author.
Collaboration for Student Inquiry Based Learning
Ms. Gilley, Ms. Prather, Ms. Earle, and Ms. Parker participated in whole class rotations using the whole group reading, collaboration stations using chromebooks or periodicals of informational text, and the makerspace to build robots using blocks/bricks using the Engineering Design Process and ultimately advanced to coding robots using the iPads. These were activities on the "Powered Up and Future Ready" events path.
My newly established Coding team met on a monthly basis as a component of the Beta Club. Super Coding Team members also worked additional hours and logged more than 40 hours in using the Wonder Robots and related Blockly Coding Apps.
Top Coding Team members from 4th grade coding more than 20 hours in Blockly are Maylin Ramirez and Marely Nolasco. Maylin and Marely also extended their inquiry learning by creating project display boards reflecting their learning of coding and the Dash and Dot Wonder Robots.
Top Coding Team members from the 5th grade are Vanessa Lopez, Lizette Hernandez, Cesar Gerardo, Sebastian Medrano and Julietta Agaton logging more than 20 hours coding in Blocky and the Wonder Apps.
Coding Team support was also provided by Ms. Penhollow, Ms. Seides, Ms. Emerson Ms. Carreras, Ms. Page, Ms. Mosley, Ms. Stewart, Ms. Lamar and Ms. Glasker.
Circulation Statistics
The top homerooms with the highest circulations are Ms. Bizzell with more than 1,000, Ms. Xenos near 950, Ms. Vela near 925, and Ms. Kleinberg with near 775. Rounding out the top five is Ms. McElveen with near 750 circulations.
The top student patron is Vanessa Lopez with 74 circulations followed by Jonathon Palacios with 71 circulations.
The top faculty patron is Ms. Chesston with 155 circulations, followed by Ms. Deloatch with 100. Esperanza Rising was the most circulated book with 170 circulations.
Non-fiction Informational Text was promoted and there was an increase of nearly 20% in checkout of non-fiction materials overall!
Library Visits
Ms. Cheston, Ms. Gilley Ms. Lipkin, Ms. Anderson, Ms. Gordon, Ms. Reece, Ms. Prather, Ms. Martin, Ms. Earle, Ms. Boyd, Ms. Kleinberg, Ms. Seides, and Ms. Saveedra were the top classes with whole group visits including read alouds, and using collaboration stations or the makerspace as a class.
Ms. Gilley, Ms. Prather, and Ms. Earle, are the leading whole group classes in using all of the "Powered Up and Future Ready" centers.

Community Engagement and Collaboration
Conducted a parent DeKalb County library card registration to build and promote the connection between the school and community based library.
The Brookhaven Rotary Club is also a regular visitor to the library and receives books for signing by their distinguished guests and subsequently returns the signed copies to our library for check-out!
Kids Hope USA also holds their regular student engagement meetings in the library and celebrated Faculty with lovely winter and year end luncheon celebrations.
Hosted Events
Solar Eclipse Pre- K Viewing with Telemundo Live on Facebook, Georgia Power Energy Efficiency Program, Fox in a Box, Illustrator/Artist on writing books,
In house events for Faculty and Staff included the Mentor/Mentee Luncheon, Black History Month Luncheon, Kids Hope USA year-end luncheon and winter thank you celebration, and baby and wedding showers!
Testing Site for standardized whole group testing and independent Make-Up sessions,
Professional Learning meetings for Georgia State University and Woodward Interns
Chromebook distribution site, check/in and out of Chromebooks, ipads and laptops, laminating, and color copying services.
Library Support Volunteers
Technology Operations and Support
Procured apps through the VPP process and installed Imagine Learning, iStation and six other educational apps on more than 75 iPads. Distributed to grade levels and maintained inventory and updated as needed. Maintained inventory and distributed Chromebooks and carts for school wide usage
Served as schoolwide webmaster and updated Woodward Elementary website regularly with scheduled events, pictures, videos and documents including School Council meeting documents, District News, and school event pictures and academic content for all grade levels and all special areas
Established social media presence on Woodward website adding links to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
Created 1,000 new reusable Library Media cards for each student containing commonly used websites for ease of student login
Created design and template for Woodward car rider tag hanger and printed/laminated for current and upcoming school year parents
Created and printed a reusable Woodward Library Media Resource Guide and distributed to more than 65 Faculty and Staff
Chaired the Library Media/Technology Committee facilitating meetings and maintaining records
Laminated more than than 45,000 feet of instructional materials for Faculty. Color and black and white print services were also provided for students and Faculty in addition to general troubleshooting of in-library District networked copier
