Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
December 13, 2019
From the desk of: Principal Hoese
As we enter the winter months, unfortunately sickness starts to spread causing more absences from school. There are also many other reasons such as appointments or out of town commitments. It is okay to let your child's teacher know they will be absent, but also, please remember to contact the office. If the teacher also happens to be absent, the message does not always get to the office in time for attendance to be taken.
It is also very important that a reason is given when calling your child in absent. Simply stating that your child will not be at school today requires us to mark that child with an unexcused absence since no valid reason was given. After two unexcused absences, we are required by law to notify truancy in such matters. Simply put, please remember to always give a reason as to why a child will not be in school. It will save everybody involved a lot of time and energy.

How can we help our children to succeed in school?
Stay involved and feel free to contact your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.
Ask your child about school and encourage them to talk about their day.
Read with your child every night.
Make sure your child is getting plenty of sleep and is ready for school each day.
Teach your children to be responsible for their actions and their schoolwork.

Santa's Workshop!
The preschoolers have really been enjoying the change in the dramatic play center. The dramatic play center has recently been transformed into Santa's Workshop! They are working hard making toys for all the good little boys and girls! In addition to Santa's Workshop, we have created a letter writing station where the children can write a letter to Santa. Dramatic play is a key component to developing positive social and emotional skills.
*Dramatic play teaches children self-regulation and impulse control.
*Dramatic play gives children an emotional outlet.
*Dramatic play teaches conflict resolution.
*Dramatic play supports early literacy development.
*Dramatic play allows teachers and parents to support their children and encourage their ideas by asking open ended questions.
How First Grade Stole Christmas
The Great Tree Debate
2nd Grader’s in 2A enjoyed surveying many staff members around FES to take a look at the pros and cons of real and artificial Christmas trees. The students then had to write a short argument piece with reasoning to support their opinion on which tree is the better choice this time of year! The staff outcome .....artificial trees are far more popular but some still enjoy getting a real one! The student outcome was right down the middle
