What an Amazing Start!
What an amazing start we have had to the 2022-2023 school year! We kicked off the year with another great freshmen orientation day led by our student leaders. The Class of 2026 brings a ton of energy and under the leadership of our upperclassmen, they are on track to carry on the rich tradition of Red River High. Homecoming Week was a bit early this year, but that didn’t stop rider nation from going all out and displaying their rider pride. The week was filled with creative dress up days like BBQ Dad vs Soccer Moms, lunchroom games, a social media blitz, and an overwhelming amount of school spirit. The annual powderpuff game was one for the ages. The juniors came out strong with a quick defensive stop and a long bomb, but that was about all she wrote for the class of 2024 as the seniors proved their dominance and came away with the victory. The week was capped off with our homecoming pep rally where the student council had over 200 kids participating in the event! From the senior football players dancing, to the pep band, to a new human table surfing competition, it was a great day to be Roughrider. At the conclusion of the pep rally, Prince Lawson Lotysz and Princess Kate Edman crowned this year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Brady Price and Ariana Hanel. Overall it was an amazing week filled with rider pride!
The 26th annual Cushman Classic was held on Friday, September 17th at Cushman Field. The game was a tale of two halves that had the Riders down 0-9 in the first half, but come out strong in the second half and defeat the Knights 19-9. Boys soccer also did their part in the rivalry department by taking down the Knights 3-1 in their opening game and playing to a 0-0 tie the second game which secured the Cushman Cup for another year. Boys tennis is currently the #1 team in the state and are setting themselves up for a state title push. Girls golf just capped off a great EDC showing in which they finished runner up by just 1 stroke. Their state tournament is next week and they are one of the top teams entering. Both the boys and girls XC teams are off to a great start this year with the boys ranked in the top 5 and the girls currently being ranked #1 in the state! They just hosted the inaugural Border Battle XC Meet in which Grand Forks welcomed over 50 teams and 1,000 runners! Congrats to the GFC and RRHS XC coaching staff on putting together an amazing event! Volleyball & girls swimming are also off to a great start and are entering the heart of their season looking to improve each and every day!
October also brings the concert and show season. The students have been putting in a ton of effort getting ready for the first concerts of the year and Mr. McFarlane & Mr. Hovey has the fall production “All I really need to know, I learned in kindergarten” setting itself up to be a classic! The dates of our upcoming concerts are below. Good luck to all of our fine arts students! Orchestra (October 10th) Jazz Band (October 17th) Fall Play (October 27th-30th) Choir (November 3rd) Band (November 7th).
Thank you to all of Rider Nation for such an amazing start to the year and we look forward to many memories and experiences to come!
Sincerely,
Mr. Nelson
