The WAVA Wave
October 1, 2016
Dear Students, Parents & Learning Coaches,
The beginning of the school year was filled with over 1250 students, lots of enthusiasm, renewed energy & high expectations. The first month of school has had many successes. Students are attending classes in record numbers, the students are moving through their curriculum and students are engaged in their learning. Thank you to all of you for helping your students prepare for a productive school year.
I want to acknowledge our Academic Deans for making our Welcome Back Assembly so successful! I want to acknowledge the Family Support Liaisons for supporting so many students before school began & they continue to help students learn to navigate our New Online High School Platform. Finally, a special thank you to our wonderful Teachers and Counselors who helped ensure all students started the year with a schedule & helped other students make adjust during the first few weeks of school. We have a great support team here at WAVA High School & we are ready to help with your student’s education.
Effective communication between students, parents & learning coaches plays an important role in helping students do well in school. We know when a student understands that parents & teachers work together, the student has a significantly higher chance to succeed & excel in school. Please take some time to talk with your student in the next week & see how they are doing in our virtual school.
I have received some great feedback in the family surveys which have been sent out & returned this year. I hope you continue to provide us with your valuable feedback as our school continues to improve.
I hope you have a great day! My Virtual door is always open.

SIEMERS FARM EXPERIENTIAL TOURS
Join an experienced K12 teacher for a K12 Meet-and Greet! Prospective and currently enrolled ISWA and WAVA students are invited to join us for a Siemers Farm Experiential Tour on Friday, October 14th at 4pm.
Let's meet at the main entrance at 4pm to buy tickets ($8.50 each, so please bring cash) and we'll enjoy this tour and spend some time together! Look for the K12 teacher in the K12 shirt!
The Siemers Farm Tour is an Experiential Tour with a guide at every activity.
The tour begins as you pick-up a numbered farm map, enter the Kingdom of Id, and walk along paths bordered by tall corn stalks and lush green shrubs on you way to the four-story Magical Castle. On the third floor of the castle you can take in a fabulous view of Green Bluff and mountain ranges.
While gazing over the farm, use a treasure map to locate the Pirate's Treasure Chest, ("X" marks the spot), take your share of the loot, and don't forget to board the Pirate Ship as you leave the Maze.
While on tour take a Train Ride, Pedal Car Ride and Slide Ride (weather permitting), then choose a Pumpkin, play the Feed the Pigs beanbag game, and watch an informative Pollination Video.
