HSS Library eBulletin

Information and Resources for the Staff of Hope Secondary

January 2013

This month's Check it out and Win! winner is... Anders Lunde. Anders wins a copy of Terry, by Douglas Coupland. Coupland is a great Vancouver writer, photographer, and collector of interesting kitsch. One of his especially funny books is titled Totally Inappropriate Tales for Young People, which we have in the library.

We have an App for that!

The new School District 78 app is now available for iPhone and Android. It gives updates and notifications for any school in the district. Check it out - it's FREE!

  • Chopsticks, by Jessica Anthony
  • The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green
  • 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher

Computer Lab Tips:

  • If everyone in the class is watching a YouTube video or playing an online game it drastically uses up our bandwidth and slows all the computers down - have students double up for viewing
  • Remind students to check where they are printing - if it doesn't print the first time they should come find me to fix the problem
  • Students are still impatient when logging out and turn the computer off instead of waiting - this leaves them logged in and requires me to fix it from the server the next time they want to log on - they need to be patient, quit out of all applications, and complete the logging off process
