Gifted Education @ Lee
Important GTi Information
Why Should I Read This??
About Me....
With that said I am here for you. I want to support you in the best way I can. I have created this smore so that you are able to learn a little bit about the service offered and be aware of upcoming dates....as well as being prepared when parents ask you questions....with that said please do not hesitate to ask me ANY and ALL questions that you are wondering about.
How does a Learner qualify for GTi services?
A learner will qualify for services IF they showing a need across 3 data points (qualitative/quantitative). Simply scoring well on a cogAT test will NOT determine a need for services. The learner will be screened and I will gather the data points. Previously this consisted of: a teacher questionnaire, map scores, an interview with the learner, planned experiences, cogAT scores, work samples, test, and/or work samples.
Since this screening could take up to a few months typically learners do not find out if they qualify until February...yes it is a long process and a COMMITTEE decides a need for services.
What does Universal Testing/Screening Mean?

What Have I Been Up to...What Am I Working On...
This year I am working on coming up with a resource for all designers who have gifted learners in their classroom. This will include gifted resources, menu ideas, station ideas, and independent projects that you may use with your identified learners who place out of classroom material. It will be broken down by subject area, topic and nine weeks. I am working on this with my team and I can't wait to see this resource come to life!!
These are some things that I attended last year:
Throughout the months of September and October I completed my 30 hours GT training. I chose to do this through Region 10 because I wanted to be able to clarify questions face to face and have human interaction! I found that my 5 days of training was so beneficial and that it provided me with a world of knowledge.
These are some major take aways from my training:
DAY 1- Nature and Social/Emotional Needs-
DAY 2- Identification and Assessment
DAY 3- Differentiating Instruction
DAY 4- Instructional Strategies and Curriculum Design
DAY 5- Advanced Products and Performances for the Gifted
I also had the privilege of attending TAGT in December! This opportunity is very special to me because I get to spend time with other Specialists who do the same thing I do at the Elementary Campuses. These group of ladies are truly phenomenal and I enjoy spending time with them and learning from all of their years of experience. The conference was over 3 days and I attended some sessions that were very valuable.
I attended 5 different sessions and here are the notes from the professional development.
