District Chromebook Damage Policy Begins October 18
Beginning October 18, West Linn-Wilsonville schools will charge fees for damages to Chromebooks that are checked out to students. Examples of Chromebook damage could include broken keys or keyboards, screen damage, or lost or broken power cords. The district provided grace for damaged devices during remote learning and the pandemic. This change is necessary to ensure that the district maintains an ample supply of functioning Chromebooks for schools and students, however.
Students who no longer require Chromebooks at home are asked to return them to their school. Students, particularly in high school, who have properly checked out a Chromebook this school year do not need to return their device. Families may return damaged or unneeded Chromebooks to their school through October 17 without incurring any fees for damaged devices.
Fee amounts will depend on the severity of damage. Money collected from damaged Chromebooks will allow for devices to be repaired or replaced.

Student Accident Insurance Information
The safety of our students is of critical importance. Even so, accidents do happen, at school and elsewhere, and required medical care can be expensive. Please know that your school does not assume responsibility for such costs but does offer access to several student accident insurance plans for voluntary purchase.
To learn more about student insurance options available to families, including how to enroll, please visit the district website.

Safety Update — Change to Standard Response Protocols
This school year, the Standard Response Protocol formerly known as "Lockout" has the new name of "Secure". This change has been made across Clackamas County to avoid confusion with the "Lockdown Protocol." WLWV schools have also added the "Hold" protocol, which is used in situations that require students to remain in classrooms so that hallways are clear. All of the Standard Response Protocols used in WLWV schools can be found below, and more information can be located on the district website.
Drills that are regularly practiced in the district include:
- Lock Down: A Lock Down secures students, staff, and volunteers within classrooms while leaving entrances open for emergency personnel and law enforcement to clear the building.
- Secure: A Secure secures and locks the building's entryways while safely sheltering all students, staff, and visitors inside the school building. This drill allows the school day to continue within the building.
- Evacuate: An Evacuation requires students, staff, and visitors to relocate to another area in the event of a fire, earthquake, or other emergency situation.
- Shelter: A Shelter requires students and staff to take shelter inside the school in the event that hazardous materials are released into the atmosphere, or extreme weather circumstances exist.
- Hold: A Hold is used in situations that require students to remain in their classrooms. For example, a medical issue may require only one are ato be cleared, with halls still open in case outside medical assistance is required. The school day continues as usual during a "Hold."
