Oh! The Places You'll Go!

2015-2016 LVES Weekly Staff Newsletter

PLC's this week...

I would like to take a few minutes of each PLC this week to talk about Guided Reading and the implementation at each grade level. One of our campus improvement goals is 90% of all students in K-4th grades will be reading at or above grade level by the end of the year, so let's talk about guided reading and how it's going in your grade level.

Electronic Signatures on Observations

Don't forget to electronically sign your observations, once your appraiser makes it available to you. By signing the observation, you are acknowledging that you received your feedback in a timely manner. We are seeing some great things in classrooms!

Picture Retake Day Tuesday

Christine sent out the updated list last week of students who were absent or new students since our last picture day. We will call for each grade level to send students down to the cafeteria to get pictures taken. Students wishing to have pictures retaken will need to have his/her original pictures with them in order to have a new picture taken.

Teacher's on Lunch Duty Wednesday

Eric will be off campus Wednesday attending the ESL field trip, so teachers will need to be on lunch duty that day. Good news is that you don't have to be on lunch duty during Thanksgiving Lunches:-)

Thanksgiving Lunches on Thursday and Friday

The cafeteria is going to be a little busy on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving lunches. Kinder, 2nd and 4th grade will have Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday. PK, 1st and 3rd grades will have Thanksgiving lunch on Friday. We will have tables set up on the stage, but guests will still probably set at the lunch tables. So, please prep your students and let them know that they may have to sit with other classes if there's no room at your class table.

Front Playground Update

Thank you for continuing to actively monitor during recess, and positioning your duty spots along the fence line. The cones and tape will continue to stay up, as there are some areas along the bottom of the fence that are tripping hazards. Please continue to keep students away from the fence and taped off areas, as we are still in the process of replacing sharp edges on the posts.

Veteran's Day Program

Great job Patty and Choir students for a wonderful performance at the Veteran's Day program on Wednesday!!

Superintendent's Harvest Challenge Canned Food Drive

Friday is the last day to collect canned food for the drive. If you have any canned goods in your room, please drop them in the boxes in the front office by Friday:-)

The Harvest Challenge begins November 2, 2015 and ends on November 20, 2015. A donation basket will be placed in the front office of each campus.

All of the collected items will be donated to our new LVISD Clothing Closet and Food Pantry, which are lovingly run by our Life Skills and 18+ programs. All of the food items will be bagged and distributed to local families in need during the holiday season and throughout the year.

Listed below are items that are needed:

• Canned Green Beans

• Canned Cream of Mushroom Soup

• Canned Gravy

• Canned Cranberry Sauce

• Canned Potatoes

• Canned Meat

• Canned Yams/Sweet Potatoes

• Canned Corn

• Canned Milk

• Peanut Butter/Jelly

• Mayonnaise

• Canned Fruit or Pie Filling

Faculty Meeting

This week's faculty meeting will be Student Support Meetings. We will start in the library at 3:05 before breaking into meeting groups.

Faculty Holiday Party

I know it's just the beginning of November, but wanted to give you information about our faculty holiday party. We are doing something a little different this year, instead of an elementary-only holiday party, we are joining forces with middle school and high school to have one big partay!! The party will be on December 12th at 7:00 pm at Spotlight Karoake Bar in The Railyard Shopping Center. If you want to show off your singing talents and enjoy some appetizers at 7:00 pm, we are asking for a $5 donation to cover the costs. More details to come later, but mark your calendars now:-)

Weekly Attendance Goal

The attendance goal for the week of November 12th was 95%. So, we didn't reach our weekly goal this week, but we will be on track to reach our goal next week.

The gauntlet has been thrown down...if we reach 97% or higher at the end of the 2nd nine weeks, I will have to kiss a pig.
