March 12th, 2023

Dear Burns Park Families,

It is Book Fair week at Burns Park! We are grateful to Ms. Erdstein and the book fair volunteers for putting this event together for our students. For more information about the book fair, please read the updates below.

We are also excited for our 3rd graders to present the musical "Press Start" for our students on Wednesday, March 15 (Y5-2: 10AM assembly, 3-5: 2:00PM assembly) and to their families on Thursday, March 16 (6:30PM). The 3rd graders, Ms. Kelmigian, Ms. Noble and our wonderful TAs have been working hard on putting together this performance - we know it will be amazing!

As an FYI - report cards will now be sent home on March 24th. You will receive them via email from Principal Bullock. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Love and Peace,

Heather & Leslee

Updates

Scholastic Book Fair is THIS WEEK!

Dear Parents and Families:

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school. We are thrilled to offer this wonderful educational experience to our students.

Here’s how the Book Fair works: during school on Monday, each child will visit and preview the Book Fair with his/her class. Your student(s) will bring home a "wishlist" and letter with more information that day. During the school days on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Book Fair is open for purchases. Please send your child to school with money in an envelope if you would like your child to make purchases from the Fair during their class shop time. We would also like to invite you to our Community Event being held Tuesday, March 14th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The event will include an opportunity for everyone in your family to shop at our Book Fair. If you cannot visit the fair in person, you can also buy books at our Online Fair (open until March 26). Purchasing books from the in-school or online fair make a great impact on the school as well, as 25% of the proceeds benefit the Burns Park School Library.

This year, we are offering another option for purchasing books. Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. If you prefer to pay with a check, you can make your check out to “Burns Park PTO”.

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

Noon Hour Volunteers Needed!

We are in great need of additional support during lunch and recess time. If you are available only a few days a week, please consider volunteering in our lunch room. If interested, please use this sign up link.

Burns Park Food Drive

Each spring, the Ann Arbor Rotary Club partners with our local food bank, Food Gatherers, in a campaign to alleviate summer hunger in our community. The AAPS participates in this endeavor that benefits our students, families, senior citizens and neighbors. The 2023 campaign begins on Monday, March 6 - March 17, 2023.

Burns Park will be hosting food collecting boxes.

This year, skyrocketing food prices have stretched the budgets of so many of our neighbors. More individuals and families in our community are turning to their local food pantries and meal programs to fill the gaps.

The 2023 campaign will once again collect nonperishable food. You are invited to bring any canned, boxed, or bagged non perishable food, outside the office.

If you are interested in financially donating, email Sandy Kreger (kreger@aaps.k12.mi.us), and she will help.

From the PTO

Dear Fantastic BPE Families,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful twenty sixth week of school. Thanks to all those who were able to join the PTO meeting on Wednesday. The next PTO meeting is being pushed back by one week to Wednesday, April 19 to avoid a conflict with next month’s Special Interest Fair.

Please see the PTO Calendar for the events and all the other end of year activities the PTO has planned (Ice Cream Social, Burns Park Run, WESO, Disability Awareness Workshop, etc.).

To support March is Reading month, below are some reminders of one time, schoolwide volunteer opportunities (Book Fair) and recurring classroom level opportunities (Library Helpers).

March is Reading Month: BP Scholastic Book Fair

We’re excited to announce the return of the Burns Park Scholastic Book Fair on March 13-15 as part of March is Reading Month! The Book Fair will include a family evening on Tuesday, March 14 from 6-8 pm. We haven’t had a book fair since 2018 so we’re looking for parent/guardian volunteers to make it extra special. We are looking for volunteers to help set up, clean up and run the fair. Please visit the Sign Up Genius for more details and to sign up. Thank you to all those who are able to help!

Sincerely,

Rachel Erdstein, Ellen Delonis and Kory Zhao (library@burnsparkpto.org)
