A Note from Mr. Bender
Woodward Mill Families,
It has been an honor to serve the students, staff, and families of this community as principal for the past 7 years. During this time, I have watched my own two children grow up, learn from, and be cared for by the teachers and staff in our wonderful school. I can tell you, from the bottom of my heart, that this community is truly phenomenal. I am very thankful for my time at Woodward Mill and the many experiences and friendships that I will carry with me moving forward. Woodward Mill is a special place, and I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to work in this community.
With that being said, I am excited to share that the next principal of Woodward Mill Elementary School was named at the most recent GCPS Board Meeting on May 19. Dr. Sonya Brown will be transitioning into the principal position in the coming weeks, and she is looking forward to meeting students and families soon.
The last day of school for students is Wednesday, May 25. We look forward to a fun and engaging last three days of school!
Have a wonderful summer!
Mike Bender

Spotlight on SEL Picture Books
Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev

2022 Summer Reading Challenge
It’s time to register for the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge at the Gwinnett County Public Library! The Gwinnett Public Library offers a variety of in-person and virtual programs during the summer months to encourage reading. The GCPL uses the digital program, Beanstack, to keep track of student reading. Use the link and directions below to register for an individual or family Beanstack account. The GCPL awards prizes as students earn points throughout the program.
Once a student logs at least 500 minutes of reading time in Beanstack, they will be considered as having completed the program for Woodward Mill recognition purposes. At Woodward Mill, the GCPS BookMobile will visit our school as a part of our summer reading recognition in late August. Suggested summer reading lists and Beanstack directions are in today’s Friday folder. If you have any questions about Beanstack or summer reading, please email Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.
Overdue Books
All student media center books are now overdue. Please take some time to look at home if your child has an overdue book. If you need to pay for a lost/damaged book, payment can be made by cash, check, or through MyPaymentsPlus.
Per GCPS policy, lost/damaged elementary media center book fines are $15.00. If you have any questions, please contact the media staff. Thank you for your help with these end of the year procedures.
