Ranch Horse Team
Ride for the Brand
The NCTA Ranch Horse Team utilizes the horse and traditional ranch values to teach all members involved responsibility, respect, and integrity in addition to an individualized horse training philosophy. If you like to work cattle on horseback and enjoy horse training, this is the team for you! Compete in pleasure, trail, reining and cow horse competitions throughout Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. Our team is a member of the Texas Stock Horse Association, CoWN association, and competes in the collegiate division II novice and limited non-pro divisions.
Push Goals:
- Improve level of horsemanship
- Positively represent NCTA and the Team
- Provide opportunities for students to travel & experience new locations, people, & potential future direction
- Build relationships with students, sponsors, competitors, community, youth, and organizations
- Support local businesses & assist in bringing potential customers to our sponsors & local businesses
- Actively participate in the American Stock Horse Association (ASHA) & Colorado, Wyoming, & Nebraska Stock Horse (CoWN)
- Assist in furthering a relationship between NCTA, other colleges and additional organizations
- Host ASHA/CoWN Sanctioned Show (successfully hosted nationally sanctioned shows in March 2015, 2016)
Long Term Goals:
- Increase Nebraska involvement in CoWN, ASHA, and NRCHA
- Provide opportunities for NE horsemen (youth & adults)to improve horsemanship skills
- Continue NE representation within ASHA/CoWN (Coach is currently on ASHA Collegiate Committee and CoWN Board NE state representative)
- Build a self-sustaining team that can finance additional applied opportunities for members as well as the community
- Support 2 full teams for travel (12 riders)
- Host additional ASHA/CoWN Sanctioned Show
- Collaborate with local & regional affiliates/related organizations & assist in growth of both
Practices
Students will meet multiple times per week with the course instructor/coach for video instruction, lecture and in lab for demonstration and practice for fundamental training maneuvers. Fundamental maneuvers will be combined to perform more advanced maneuvers that may include but will not be limited to:
- Side Pass
- Spins
- Flying lead changes
- Departures
- Speed Control
- Perfectly round circles
- Sliding stops
- Boxing cattle
- Roll backs
- Leads
- Roping cattle
- Trail obstacles
- Taking cattle down the fence
- Rating cattle
- Transitions
- Forehand and hind quarter pivot
