Ms. Vanus 7A Math
Hello Parents,
The second full week is in the books and I am so proud of all the students. They have been working hard to not only learn the new mathematics we are going over but to also bring their prior knowledge to every class. We had our first CFA (similar to a quiz) on Wednesday over adding integers to get to zero. The grades for these can be replaced by a retake which we have been practicing for.
This week we will be taking a CFB (similar to a test) over adding integers. After that we will begin subtracting integers. We have pictures on Wednesday so make sure all the students come to school dressed nicely for them. As always, please do not hesitate to ask me if you have any questions or concerns.
Mrs. Spin "Spin" 7A Science
Tomorrow we will begin Atom stations. I am really excited to get into our small group rotations so we can really dig into this material!
Wednesday is our first benchmark assessment. This will cover the science and engineering practices and atoms.
On Tuesday they will know exactly what they need to look at to prepare for the benchmark.
My goal is to teach the material in such a way that they don't really need to study. I want to know that they know the material, rather than just know it for the test.
I want to give a shout out to Noah Rogers, Emily Bolton, and Garren Thompson
Mrs. Alexander 7A Historical Literacy
Another great week! We are wrapping up our Byzantine Empire lessons this week. Thursday we will have an assessment over the standards we have covered. Remember students are reading documents and writing using R.A.C.E
Student shout outs... Thank you to all of my 4th period kiddos for working hard and coming up with amazing presentations for our Justinian Code activity!
Ms Heim 7A Language Arts
This past week was amazing! I am getting to know each student and I am loving spending time with them in ELA. We have awesome students in 7A and I can’t wait to continue our journey.
The students worked hard this week. Getting use to routines in each class can be extremely hard! Have a talk with your child and make sure they are communicating with us each day - especially if they don’t understand something! We are always here for them!
The students have their first book analysis due on Tuesday of this week. I sent them home with a hard copy of what they are to do for this weekly assignment. They also know that they can find this information electronically on my website and Edmodo. Do I expect this first assignment to be perfect? Absolutely not .... I expect that they try their hardest and I know I am going to see wonderful things happen as a result of their hard work - it will take time and that’s okay.
We have a new program this year called IReady. It is a diagnostic and prescriptive tool for reading that will help your child immensely! I am requiring them to be on this program at least 40 minutes a week. Your child can access this program both in and out of school. Look for more information later in the week. I plan on starting 40 minutes logs after Labor Day!
Please refer to my website daily - everything you need to know about ELA will be updated often. I hope you have a wonderful week - if you need anything please do not hesitate to email me at heimd@rcschools.net
Love,
Ms. Heim
