Principal's Corner
Dear Raider Families,
Spring Break has finally arrived! Our Raiders are ready for some well-deserved down time relaxing with friends and family. I truly hope everyone enjoys this holiday and comes back ready to rock the last 9 weeks of school. We only have 9 more weeks until Summer and it will be here before we know it. Let's finish strong BCMS...the end zone is in sight!
Huge shout-out to our incredible kids, staff, parents and volunteers who made our 2021 Day of Service a huge success. Special thanks to our amazing AP, Mr. Ellis, who kept this dream alive even with all our COVID restrictions. Also, a huge thank you to Brandy Meid, Elizabeth Emmertt, and Prashanti Kovvuri, our amazing parent committee. This day is all about giving back to our community and recognizing and appreciating how lucky we are to live in such an outstanding place. Ask your kids about their experiences today. We included some pictures below to highlight the event.
Have a wonderful, restful week off everyone! We'll see you back on the 22nd, ready to get right back to learning together.
Go Raiders,
Principal Prehn
BCMS Day Of Service 2021
We are excited to share that we all enjoyed a very successful Day of Service this year! Even though our students could not travel to service sites, all of our kids engaged remotely and in-person in a variety of activities to give back to our community today.
Students worked with their Go Time classes on a project or activity to benefit an organization. All projects and activities were thoughtfully designed to be inclusive and adaptable for both in-person and remote learner participation. This truly will be a collaborative effort between in-person and remote learners and we appreciate all of the parent support and donations that contributed to today's success.
Day of Service projects or activities included:
Collecting supplies to assemble “Care Packages” for local organizations serving several groups in need
Writing letters and cards to members of the military, hospitalized children, and senior citizens
Creating tree identifying signage for local parks, campus or home
Interviewing senior citizens
Making pet leashes, toys, and beds for local pet shelters
This was an outstanding example of our Raider Spirit at work and we greatly appreciate everyone's hard work making this day a success or our entire community!

Counselor's Corner
Greetings Raiders,
Each week our students take part in Social Emotional Learning Lessons (Second Step) with their Go Time classes. These are necessary life skills, and especially during these unprecedented times we want our students to face these challenges with some great tools to help guide them. If your student is struggling and needs additional emotional or academic support, please refer them to us for assistance. We are available anytime during the school day to meet with students that stop by our offices and for our remote learners, we also schedule remote counseling sessions. Our contact information is below, at the bottom of Mrs. Prehn's newsletter.
Second Step Lessons for March 22nd
6th Grade:
Lesson 21: Why Conflicts Escalate
Summary
In this week’s lesson, your child will identify behaviors that can cause conflicts to escalate, so they keep them from becoming more serious.
Question
Tell your child about a time when you played a part in escalating a conflict. Explain what you wished you had done instead. Ask your child if they are part of a conflict right now that they need help with.
7th Grade:
Lesson 21: Keeping Your Cool in a Conflict
Summary
In this week’s lesson, your child will explore how using emotion-management strategies, such as slow breathing, walking away, reframing unhelpful thoughts, and practicing positive self-talk, can help prevent a conflict from escalating.
Question
Share with your child strategies you use to help yourself calm down during escalating conflicts. Ask them to tell you any additional strategies they find helpful beyond the ones covered in the lesson.
8th Grade:
Lesson 21: Values and Relationships
Summary
In this week’s lesson, your child will draw connections between their values and the healthy relationships in their life.
Question
Ask your child about how one of their values shows up in a healthy relationship they have. This could be a friendship, a sibling or other familial relationship, or even a professional relationship with a teacher or coach.
Reminders from the Front Office
Picking Up Your Student from School Procedures
Please send a note with your student (the day of the appointment) to drop off in the front office before school and we will give them a pass to leave class. If you did not send a note, please come early to pick up your student. As soon as you arrive in the office, we will call your student out of class.
Students will only be released to their parents or people on your emergency contact list. This list cannot be updated by phone; you must update it in Skyward. If you need assistance with that process, please contact our registrar, Mary Armendariz @ armendariza@ltisdschools.org
We appreciate your assistance!
Chromebook Distribution and Technology Support
Students have now been issued a Chromebook for in school and remote learning purposes. I've listed two very important documents below for you to read through and familiarize yourself with the new guidelines and expectations regarding their use.
Students are now responsible for bringing these devices to school each day. Students are responsible for keeping their devices charged and ready for learning each day. We appreciate you helping remind students of these expectations.
If you missed the opportunity to receive your Chromebook, we can help! In-person learners need to stop by the Tech Depot (Room 503) before school or during Go Time to pick up their device. The Tech Depot is also available for all students to get assistance with technical support, damaged equipment or software issues. Please encourage your students to stop by and get help if they need it during the day.
Remote learners who missed device deployment need to email their Go Time teacher for help. Those teachers will submit a help ticket on their student's behalf and a member of our technology team will reach out to families directly to schedule pickup. Following the break, we will have lockers installed in our front vestibule for device pickup. Technology will schedule those details directly with families.
Important Information for Families and Students:
