Spring Break, No School

Student-Led Conferences continue

Student-led Conferences continue all week. During these meetings, students, their grown-ups and teachers reflect on and celebrate student growth and next steps. As a school, we will dismiss students at 1:00 PM daily to make time for these meetings. Your child's teacher can assist in setting up an online conference for you and your child.

Principal's Message

We are continuing to celebrate improved health in the community. Within classrooms, we are returning to more fluid opportunities for collaboration. Student clubs are beginning to meet outside. We are taking walking field trips. We've scheduled a visit from the CHS Children's Theater after Spring Break. Soon, we'll be enjoying some of the community-wide activities we love.


To date, COVID protocols kept cohorts of primary and upper grade students separate. After break, we will be planning activities that allow older and younger classrooms to get to know one another. We look forward to helping our students reconnect and build a sense of school-wide connection. Knowing one another helps us understand why and how we need to act on one other's behalf. We look forward to these deliberate efforts to make new friends and build a wider sense of community. As school-wide activities open up, I would encourage families to join in and do the same.

In-N-Out - Monday Night!

We are so excited to see so many families on Monday evening, starting at 6pm. Please enter Sycamore campus using the front entrances. The In-N-Out truck will be on the blacktop.

*Tickets are sold out. If you missed the opportunity to purchase a ticket, simply bring your dinner with you!


What to bring?

  • A picnic blanket
  • A family board game to play with your family!
  • Option to Donate a Game: Perhaps you also have a game or two you are ready to donate. We will have a table available for "pass it on games". Donation games must have all pieces and be in good condition. Teachers will first be given an opportunity to add to their classrooms and any additional board games will be donated to a local non-profit.
  • No other concessions available the night of this event - the event is designed to be simple and casual - just enjoy being on the other side of the gate. We missed you all!

**Families may also choose to pick up dinner and enjoy off campus if they feel more comfortable, or have a scheduling conflict. While on campus please follow all school guidelines and policies. Parents must stay with their children. This is not a drop off event. All playground equipment must be monitored by a students grown-up. No Sycamore Staff supervision is available.

Upper Grade Green Team and Track Team

We have a large group of upper grade students joining our school's Green Team. Over the coming weeks, our Green Team students will be adding finishing touches and caring for our new garden. They'll help lead fellow students in learning ways to care for the planet. We'll resume our meetings during the week of March 28.


Also during the week of March 28, upper graders may elect to join our Track Team. Interested students can join to compete with fellow CUSD students in the Vista Track Meet on April 29. Interested students will need to practice during the noon recess twice per week. A permission slip will be required for participation. More information will come during the week of March 28.

Health Update

We will be sending a single antigen test home with each student at the start of Spring Break. We will ask each student to test on Sunday before returning to school on April 11. Directions for submitting results will be provided.


As mentioned earlier this week, federal funding for community-based testing is no longer available. As a result, CUSD will no longer host PCR testing at our four locations. We remain committed to providing antigen tests to students and staff who request a kit due to school exposure.


Please ask your child how they are feeling before leaving for school, and keep your student at home if any symptoms are present. Use our 24 hour attendance line, 909-398-0325, to contact Norma or email her using our NEW ATTENDANCE email at SYC_Attendance@cusd.claremont.edu.

Supporting Social-Emotional Well-Being

As part of our efforts for supporting students' social-emotional well-being, our students will complete the Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS) survey. PASS will provide teachers with reliable and valid information regarding students' feelings about themselves as learners and school, so we can address concerns and non-academic barriers to learning. This survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. It will be taken in all classes prior to Spring Break. Please be assured that student confidentiality will be strictly protected. If you have questions about PASS, please contact me via email.

POP UP GEAR and SCRIP TABLES

With so many fun restaurant nights and Sycamore activities this Spring, we want to make sure everyone has some Sycamore Gear! We also have a few SCRIP gift cards left. Pop up tables located by Memorial Park will begin to "pop up" soon! Next week - Mon, Tues and Wed 1-2pm. If anyone is interested in helping or manning a table at morning drop off - email sycamoregovernance@gmail.com.

Blaze Pizza Night - Thursday, March 24th from 5-8pm.

Watch out for some friendly faces at the Claremont, Blaze Pizza this week. Sycamore 6th graders will be bussing tables! Please show this flyer if ordering in person. A photo works too- so take a screenshot now. If ordering online - use the PROMO code 1191A. Blaze Pizza will donate Sycamore 20% from your meal. See you there!

El Roble News

  • If your child is moving on to El Roble this fall, you may want be a part of the El Roble PFA. Volunteers are needed for the PFA committee. See this flyer for details.
  • 6th and 7th graders can show their El Roble school spirit by trying out for El Roble Cheer. See the flyer to the left for details.
  • Watch for an email from El Roble's counselors. The online registration form becomes available March 30, and it's due April 13.
  • Cheer clinics start this week.

Garden Party and Movie Night - Friday, April 29

We have a lot to celebrate this year, including a new outdoor learning area for our students. Join us on Friday, April 29th to honor our new garden and have a little fun too! We can't wait to giggle with you all!

Claremont Educational Foundation Car Raffle

The Claremont Educational Foundation (CEF) supports Claremont students with funding for art and music instruction, technology and teacher-generated curricular grants. Last year, Sycamore received over $12,000 in support of art and music instruction. You can further the work of CEF and Sycamore by participating in CEF's annual car raffle. Tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100. For each ticket sold, Sycamore will receive $7. The owner of the winning ticket will receive their choice of a Buick Encore, Chevrolet Equinox, or a GMC Terrain, vehicles donated by local dealerships. Tickets are available in the school office. Mt. Sac Math and Science Day for upper graders

Mt. Sac will host the Dr. Deborah Boroch Discovery Day on Saturday, April 23 from 8am-2pm. Fifth to seventh graders and their parents are welcome to join for a full day of math and science activities. Registration is open and space is limited!

Governance Council

Our school's Governance Council acts as both our School Site Council and Parent Faculty Association. This shared decision making body offers guidance to our school's educational program and community activities. In the month of May, we'll be electing new members to this group. Please consider taking a leadership role or joining as a committee chair in the coming year. More information about Governance roles will be shared soon.
