GRMS Checkout Marathon Hits New Record
All 1300 students at GRMS visited the library during the first week of school. Students were encouraged to search through book series and favorite authors to find one that would jump start them into a year full of reading. Our students and teachers have checked out 9,614 books since August! Gryphons Read! Jo Loecher
3D Printing at CHS
CHS hosted 200 students in our CHIME kickoff event to encourage students in STEM education. The library led a session where students practiced with 3D printing pens. Middle and high school students both had fun in this exciting event! Nikki Ogden
SRVHS Wolves Are On the Hunt
All college prep English classes have had one visit to the library this year, and a few have had a second or a third! Some stayed for lessons on databases or learning to use the catalog to discover new titles. Penny Kittle's influence is felt here!

SVMS Adobe Spark Creators!
All 6th grade students learned how to create Adobe Spark pages and videos in the library. They enjoyed 'touring" each others' pages on a place to visit. They'll soon create book trailers using this tool for their core classes. Fun!

Dot Day at CWMS
The students from the moderate SDC class came in for a reading of The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. After checking out their new book for the week, they were able to create their own dot which they then turned into a 3D sphere using ipads.

LCMS Reading Rates
LC is on fire with Penny Kittle's work with reading rates. Almost every student has either conferred with their core teacher or teacher librarian after having calculated their reading rate. We conversed honestly and opening about reading and setting realistic reading goals to reflect where they want to be at the end of this school year. Kim Carter
IHMS TIQA Paragraphs
As preparation for English at Cal High School, IHMS librarian, Mrs. Hamon has taught all eighth-grade students how to write a TIQA paragraph. This process has made for much more meaningful writing of analytical paragraphs and set students up to think critically about their reading. Students will work on writing this way throughout the year in the hopes that they are all experts by the time they are freshmen. Michelle Hamon
PVMS Rising to the Reading Challenge
PVMS is rising to their reading challenges and setting personal reading goals this year. All 7th graders have set personal reading goals hoping to reach the ultimate 40 book goal. Bi-weekly trips to the library are keeping 6th and 7th graders excited about new literature discoveries as we share book talks together. We have begun preparing for the spring Battle of the Books competition with over 70 students reading the ten chosen books for this year. Gerry Peterson
Rock the Vote at DVHS
Our Government teachers are organizing a two-day voter registration event that will create an atmosphere of mock registration and voting. With young people now being invited and legally eligible to pre-register to vote at the age of 16, this is a creative and exciting way for our upperclassmen on campus to gain exposure to their civic rights and responsibilities. We can’t wait to host this event and help promote young people’s ability to exercise their important 1st Amendment right. Kerri Knapp
WRMS Reads Banned Books!
WRMS Middle School students are happily settling into their multi-classroom book groups but sometimes they need a extra spark to feel excited about their choices...BANNED BOOKS light them up every year!
The majority of our middle and high schools celebrated our first amendment "Right to Read" during Banned Books Week this month! Terrylynee Turner
DVMS Using Kahoots for Battle of the Books
Our Battle of the Books teams have begun competing already using the Kahoots question generating app to write and share together. We have an enthusiastic group, with many new members and also our returning competitors from last year's team. Diablo Vista team is inspired by their winning of the District Battle of the Books last year.

Librarians Curate Resources for Constitution Day
Librarians continuously curate resources for teachers and students to prepare mini-lessons for many of the national days and months highlighted in the SRVUSD. Constitution Day prep included websites, books, activities and even a visit from the "Father of our Country" at several sites.
Innovation Centers Open in GRMS and CWMS Libraries
Innovation Centers house STEM resources and a variety of coding projects for teachers across the district to check out and use in their classrooms. Coding is the new literacy! Click to see pictures of students engaging with these materials.
