Information relating to COVID

The information below is current as of August 9, 2021, and is subject to change based on the number of cases of COVID-19 in our community and the guidance of local and state health departments. The information is a part of the Delta County School District’s 2021-2022 ‘Start Plan.’ To read this plan in its entirety click here or visit deltaschools.com.

The Delta County School District strongly encourages all students and staff members to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccines have been highly successful at reducing transmission, infections, and deaths. Fully vaccinated staff and students will not have to miss school to quarantine even in the case that they are in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19. The vaccine is currently available for free to all individuals 12 and older. For more information on where students can receive the vaccine visit https://www.deltacounty.com/708/COVID-19-Vaccine.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Are masks required for students and staff members?

Face coverings are not required but are strongly encouraged for anyone who is not vaccinated. School District staff will ensure that all students who wear face coverings are treated in a respectful manner.

In the event, a student or staff member tests positive, what will happen?

If a student or staff member tests positive, we will identify close contacts. Close contacts who are not vaccinated will be required to quarantine (more information below).

Will my student have to quarantine?

Students and staff members who have received the COVID-19 vaccine will not be required to quarantine. Any unvaccinated students or staff members who are deemed close contact will be required to quarantine for 10 days. Quarantined individuals may return after 7 days if they are symptom-free AND receive a negative test result. School personnel will

What should I do if my student is sick?

Parents should screen students daily before students come to school and any students displaying signs of illness are encouraged to stay home. If a student shows symptoms of COVID-19 for more than 48 hours then that student is required to isolate for 10 days or receive a negative COVID-19 test before returning to school. If your student is sick please notify the office.

What is being done to help mitigate the risk of the transmission of COVID-19?

We will continue to make cleaning high-touch surfaces a priority. We will also encourage students and staff to maintain social distance when possible and encourage students to prioritize healthy habits such as washing their hands on a regular basis and before meals.

What about busses, field trips, and extracurricular activities?

On busses, students are not required to wear face coverings, but it is recommended for anyone not fully vaccinated. Field trips and extracurricular activities will return to normal but attendees, chaperones, spectators, and participants are subject to the guidelines of the destination or the host school.

Outdoor Gear Needed!

Paonia K-8 is working to improve outdoor education experiences for all grade levels! A big barrier to helping our students experience the outdoors is easy access to gear. Help us out by donating outdoor gear items you just haven’t been using like you thought you would! We’re looking for used or lightly used items that have a lot of life left in them or quality gear in need of minor repairs. Drop gear off at the new Paonia K-8 or contact Jim Frazier via email: jim.frazier@deltaschools.com

Items we’re looking for include:

  • Fly or Spinning Rods, gear, and tackle
  • Fly Tying gear and supplies
  • Camp Stoves
  • Backpacking gear
