Updates from our Principal
Greetings Firebird Nation Families -
Happy Friday! We are now down to the last week of school! We can do this!
Remember, for 8th graders, the last day of school is Thursday, May 26th. For 6th and 7th graders, the last day of school is Friday, May 27th and there is an early release at 12:00pm that day. District transportation will still be running the normal routes at the adjusted times.
Our 8th grade promotion will take place on Thursday, May 26th, at 5:00pm. Students need to report to FMS by 4:00pm to the FMS Gym for line up. Students should dress presentably for the ceremony. The ceremony will begin promptly at 5:00pm and should be finished by 6:30pm at the latest. If you are attending the ceremony, please bring a lawn chair or blanket as guests will be sitting directly on the football field. The weather forecast is still showing good weather for that day, so we should be good to go. If a change to the FHS Gym is necessary, we will let you know early next week.
Chromebook check in will take place Monday - Wednesday of next week. Students need to get their chromebook ready to turn back in. Any stickers or additional things added to it must be removed. Students will also need to return their charger as well. Teachers will let students know when their team is turning these chromebooks in.
Yearbooks will be handed out on Monday for any students that have pre-ordered a yearbook. They will be distributed by their grade level teams. There are still some yearbooks available for sale and the information related to this is contained in a section below.
We look forward to a successful end to the year next week. I must remind all students to keep their behaviors in check, double check their grades, and look for ways to thank teachers again for all of their hard work with you this year!
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Stay safe with all this snow we are getting!
Sincerely,
Brian Smith
Executive Principal

From Nurse Nelda
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please take a moment to read the following information regarding preparation for school year 2022-23.
Medication Policy: Colorado State law governs our medication policy. If your student must take medication during school hours, we must have the following before it can be administered at school:
A written physician’s order (including drug name, dose, route, time, duration of treatment, physician signature and parent/guardian signature). This includes all over-the-counter, prescription, and/or homeopathic medications. Medication forms are located at D49.org/ our services/ nursing services.
Medication must be in the original container, complete with a pharmacy label that matches the current written physician signed medical order(s).
Medications are kept in a secure cabinet in the health room. If a student must self-carry a medication such as: inhaler, Epi-Pen, or diabetic supplies, a physician order is required, along with the self-carry contract signed by parent/guardian, student, and school RN.
Medication orders must be renewed annually and do not carry over from year to year.
Action Plans for Asthma, Severe Allergy requiring an Epinephrine device, Diabetes, or Seizure Disorders must be updated annually by a medical provider. Please contact the School Health Room if you need assistance or need a new form for this school year.
Immunizations: Colorado State law requires all students to be up-to-date on school required immunizations and/or have a written exemption form on file at the school.
Important: As of this past July 1, 2021 there are two ways to submit a non-medical exemption:
1. Submit the Certificate of Non-Medical Exemption with a signature from an immunizing provider who is a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse or physician’s assistant.
-OR-
2. Submit the Certificate of Non-medical Exemption received upon the completion of Colorado Health Department’s Online Immunization Education Module. https://cdphe.colorado.gov/vaccine-exemptions
All non-medical exemptions expire June 30th each year and must be resubmitted the following school year.
Illness Guidelines: School District 49 complies with the most current Colorado Department of Health and Environment guidelines. Updates may occur prior to the start of school year 2022-23.
If you have any questions, concerns, or specific information for either of us, please contact us at (719) 495-5227. All above information and health services forms can be found at https://www.d49.org/nursingservices

FIREBIRD NATION CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION
There was a lot of progress on the Firebird Nation Campus expansion this week. You can clearly see Bennett Ranch is growing in size! The Concrete foundations are all complete, which includes all of the waterproofing and backfilling. The interior wall masonry (tall wall in the photos) is mostly complete and construction on the stair towers has started. You will soon see the walls to the new gym go up. The concrete slabs will also be poured soon. Some of the renovations to the interior of Bennett Ranch on on schedule to take place this summer! Keep watching as the building expands.
