Principals Message:
On Tuesday we honor the memory of Coach Mouser and his contribution to not just our community at CHS, but the entire field of soccer coaching across the state of Oregon, I am reminded of the richness of what it means to honor those who came before us and to continue their legacy. The legacy of Coach Mouser includes a relentless dedication to supporting students in the fostering of their own excellence. What does it mean to ensure that ALL of our students experience a sense of personal excellence, of honoring their own greatness and the greatness in others, and of knowing that they belong? What does this true belonging and experience of excellence look, sound and feel like across classrooms, in the hallways, and during our events? How do our systems grow this sense of excellence and belonging for our students and what needs to shift toward doing so even better? Here at CHS we understand that even as we celebrate our successes, we are also always looking to improve toward better serving our students. We believe that actualizing excellence and belonging for ALL students is a cornerstone of what it means to practice equity. We continue to learn from those who came before us, and those who are here right now--our students, our families, our staff, our community partners and stakeholders...we continue to seek to grow and evolve toward ever-improving our ability to serve ALL students.
Congratulations to our Fall sports teams for being student-athletes

Way To Go, Eagles! Thank you all for showing our community what it means to be a student Athlete at CHS!
Also congratulations to our Volleyball team who has qualified for fall playoffs. The first round of OSAA games will be this Saturday (10/28). Also, our Boy's Soccer team is just one win away from earning their own playoff spot. So come cheer on our Eagles!
I also just wanted to take a moment and thank SUN as well as all those involved in our after-school clubs. These clubs are a wonderful enrichment opportunity for our students, as they have the chance to learn and express themselves in their areas of interest and affinity.
I want to take a moment and thank all of those who were involved in a successful Manufacturing Day event and CHS Pink Week for fighting Breast Cancer! Both were a great success. Finally, thank you to everyone who helped with our October Spirit Assembly. It was a lot of fun.
Thank you, Eagles! And I hope you have a beautiful and safe rest of your weekend.
Remember, "Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle" at CHS!

Sleep is Important: Dr. Matthew Walker is one of the champions at the forefront of helping people improve their relationship with sleep. He has done countless interviews, has a viral TED talk, and numerous books on the importance of sleep and why we need to make it a top priority. His website, https://www.sleepdiplomat.com/ , offers links to these resources, but also has a weekly newsletter and podcast episodes. Take a look, and rest well!
Early data from our student needs survey is indicating 45% of students who responded are struggling with healthy sleep habits. Sleep can play a major role in our health and well being, including our mental health. Sleepeducation.org is a great resource to find information on healthy sleep habits. Here are some quick tips they recommend for healthy sleep:
Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every day, even on weekends or during vacations.
Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep.
Don’t go to bed unless you are sleepy.
If you don’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed. Go do a quiet activity without a lot of light exposure. It is especially important to not get on electronics.
- Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Use your bed only for sleep.
- Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing. Keep the room at a comfortable, cool temperature.
- Limit exposure to bright light in the evenings.
- Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Don’t eat a large meal before bedtime. If you are hungry at night, eat a light, healthy snack.
- Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
- Avoid consuming caffeine in the afternoon or evening.
- Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
- Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.
