Quality learning for all in a caring community.

Dear parents and friends of our school Kia Ora/Bora Da/Hello
Kia ora Koutou
Thank you for making arrangements to have your children at home for our Staff Only Day on Monday. The teachers used this day to focus on our assessment and moderation of writing samples. The reason we moderate is to check the consistency of teachers judgements once they have made their assessments. It is important that schools take time to identify, support and resolve any differences within and across year groups, levels and across the whole school.
This is occuring across all schools in our Kahui Ako as we look to strengthen our assessment practices within our cluster of schools.
Our support staff used this day to make resources, sort resources and catch up on odd jobs.
We really appreciate this Ministry of Education provided day (that is meant to assist with reducing teacher workload) to focus on our assessment practices during the school day.

COLOUR RUN FRIDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER
This is not only a fun run, it is a colour run. So we would like everyone to dress up in white. Please remember that this does not mean everything you are wearing has to be white, just try to wear something white or alternatively some old, light coloured clothing. Sunglasses or goggles would be good idea to wear if your children have them. Children will have coloured powder thrown on them while they are completing various activities. This is a fundraising event and we will be raising money to go towards care packages for the Taranaki Base Hospital, so it would be great if you could bring a gold coin or if you would like to bring something to fill up a care package, for example a blanket, toy or book etc, that would be greatly appreciated.
Bus children need to bring a change of clothes to go home in.
If children are unable to participate in this due to health reasons please contact the office by Friday morning 11/9/20.
Due to Alert Level 2 restrictions families will be unable to come to school to watch this event.
Thank you.
The Student and Sports Council.

The following Sunday 9-1030 we will repeat and at the conclusion we will name trial teams for the following Sunday.

We are currently waiting for updated information due to changes being made to cater for COVID restrictions. Runners will be bringing home a newsletter with more information today.
Daffodil Day
Last week a group of Year 7&8 students picked and sold bunches of daffodils for their Toko Star community service hours. We raised a whopping $180 that we have donated to the Taranaki Cancer Society. A big thank you to the parents that transported us to pick the daffodils and everyone that supported this event.

At this stage we are still planning to proceed with this event. If we are still in Level Two we may have to make some organisational changes to the day.

HELPING YOUR CHILDREN AT HOME
THE POWER OF YET
HELPING TO BOOST YOUR CHILDS ORAL LANGUAGE SKILLS
1. Look together at photos or videos of when children were young, and discuss who was there, what led up to the event etc.
2. Look through a magazine/junk mail sharing anything find interesting or funny.
3. Alert your child to an article or picture in the newspaper or something from TV that may interest them.
4. Read books to or with your child. It is important for fathers to do this too! Children are more likely to value reading if you show you do as well.
5. Retell a favourite story or one from your childhood. Get them to retell one of their own.
