Spotlight On First Grade
At North Elementary, reading is a priority in every grade level. Throughout each day, students have the opportunity to engage in reading. In grades K-2, students are learning to read by listening to read-alouds during Models. Modules is a block of time centered around a topic such as weather (K), space (1st), or fossils (2nd). Students are engrossed in read-alouds on the topic and are working on comprehension skills.
During Skills Block, students are working on their phonics skills to ensure they have a strong foundation in decoding, blending words, spelling, and writing words. In grades 3-4, students are reading to learn through Modules and developing their grammar skills through All Block.
At North, we want to support this development of building a strong reader at home because we have seen first hand how this helps students perform stronger in the classroom. Many teachers are offering the Book-It Pizza Hut reading incentive as one way to motivate reading at home. This incentive allows reading homework to count towards students’ logged minutes.
Thank you for supporting your child in their reading development and helping to foster a lifelong love of reading

Headphones & Charger
It is very important that we have our devices charged and ready to go for each and every school day. We use these devices a lot during instruction time throughout the day. There are also times when our headphones are needed to help eliminate distractions. Thank you for your help with this!
Lunch Account Transfers/Refunds
We have some exciting news regarding lunch refunds and transfers. We have created two Google forms and they are already on our website. You can find the forms by going to the district website then go to Parents and you will see two new forms there. One is called Account Refund Application and the other is called Account Transfer Application. You can also find the links below.
Effective immediately, when you need a refund or transferring money within your student(s) lunch and/or fines & fees accounts you can go to the website and you will need to complete the appropriate form and submit it. Please do not call the board office. You must fill out the form.
Once submitted, refunds are reviewed by the Finance Department and processed. Refund checks will only be issued once a month and must go before the Board for approval. Therefore, they will be released a day or two after each Board Meeting (normally the 2nd Tuesday of every month so the release of checks will usually be the 2nd Thursday or Friday of the month).
Transfers will be processed as soon as possible, it will all depend on the Finance Department's workload each day. She will process them within 72 business hours from the time of receiving the forms. When you submit the forms, they will be sent to the Finance team immediately.
Your Donations Are Needed!
We never know when students may need a change of clothing due to an accident or unforeseeable events. Thank you for your consideration of our students' ever-changing needs!

Counselor's Corner
Counseling lessons this month will revolve around service and being grateful for what we have. We will also discuss charity and how it helps people, especially during the Holidays.

NURSE'S NOTES
Cold and flu season is just around the corner. Please help keep sickness to a minimum by reminding your child to cover their mouth when sneezing or coughing as well as practice good hand-washing skills.

Art Remarks
Hello North Families! First quarter went by very quickly, it's hard to believe we are nearing the holidays! We have discussed several topics such as texture, color mixing, pointillism, tinting/shading and more! This quarter, we will be covering a lot of artists including Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keefe, Picasso and Monet. As December nears, I am hopeful that we will be able to design ornaments and holiday mementos using clay, watercolor paint, and more! I am enjoying each and every one of your young artists!
Artfully yours,
Miss Hopson
