Welcome To January!

Hello Knox Families!

Welcome to January! Happy New Year everyone. We ended 2019 in an awesome way at Knox. Below, find lots of pictures of our students engaged in learning in all classrooms. During December, we had a wonderful winter music concert, a fun Pep Rally with lots of games, and many field trips and Brag Tags awarded for student success! We are so proud of our Knox students, and are recognizing their hard work often with Brag Tags and celebrations.

As a school, we continue to focus on improving school-wide attendance and reading success for all. It's extremely important that all absences be made up in Saturday School. When students are absent, they miss 6 class lessons. We are open every weekend from 8-12 for students to clear their missed days. It is also extremely important that students arrive on time to school each morning. Our first 30 minutes daily are spent on Achieve 3000, our school-wide reading program. We have seen tremendous reading growth for our students (as measured by the FAST reading assessment) with a focus on daily reading for all students each morning. We have also seen amazing positive outcomes from our Jimmie Johnson library grant makeover. Please see the outcomes here, showing an increase in visits to the library, and an increase in time spent reading independently.

Students have been focused and engaged in class, making up absences in Saturday and Sunday School, taking advantage of the late bus on Monday and Tuesdays to attend tutoring, and morning Achieve reading lab. As we move into the last few weeks of the semester, please continue to support your student by having them check their Power School assignments regularly, make up all absences, make sure they arrive on time daily to participate in our morning Achieve 3000 reading time in Advisory, as well as reaching out to their teachers if needed. Our staff directory can be found here:

This month, our Bulldog Way theme is Perseverance. Each Advisory teacher will select the student who has demonstrated this characteristic. Students will get a brag tag and a reward. Please ask your student about their Brag Tags!

We continue to spend our mornings in Advisory reading. Students are logging into the program Achieve 3000, in order to promote our school-wide literacy focus. Your student will be taking the Level Set Lexile test in Achieve 3000 on Tuesday 1/7 in Advisory. Students will receive Brag Tags for raising their score.

Students will also receive Brag Tags for raising their FAST assessment scores in ELA and Math. All students took the FAST before the winter break.

Students can also read articles at home or in morning reading lab from 7:30-8:00 every morning at Knox.

Morning Achieve 3000 Reading Lab Schedule: 7:30-8:00am

Monday- Room 6

Tuesday-Room 3

Wednesday-Room S1

Thursday-Room 103

Friday-Room 206

Thank you to our parents that have been participating in our parent circles and workshops. We appreciate your partnership.

We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students will be checking out independent reading books during library visits with their English class.

All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter.

The semester is coming to a close, please remind your student to monitor their Power School Portal for missing assignments. Semester grades are final.

Thank you for your partnership and Happy New Year!

Attendance Matters

On time daily attendance is an extremely important factor in promoting student success. School starts at 8:15 every morning. We highly encourage all students to make up missed days (for any reason) on a Saturday. When students are absent, they miss 6 different class lessons. Saturday School can help provide students the time to make up missing assignments. Please ensure if your child misses a day of school, you call the main office. We will be partnering with Mending Matters to support students with excessive absences or tardies. Mending Matters group sessions will be held on Mondays for 3 hours on campus called STAY.

The STAY curriculum focuses on truancy and attendance. The school-based instruction explores factors which contribute to truancy, and the resulting consequences of missing school. Topics range from goal-setting, coping skills, support system, self-evaluation, and both personal and environmental factors that contribute to truancy.

We will continue to provide incentives to students that clear all of their missed days, showing responsible attendance!

Saturday School /Sunday School are in progress!

We are open this month on:

Each session will clear 1 full day absence and 3 tardies.
