A Message from Principal Bame
Dear Laurel Park Families,
The last few weeks have been challenging from a health and wellness perspective. I would like to take a moment to thank Ms. Lovett, our Covid Coordinator and one of our Assistant Principals, for providing amazing customer service during a period of time when the volume of reported cases has increased. Our front office team also deserves our sincerest appreciation because they directly support our family communication plan. Thank you to our staff and greater community for supporting our team when difficult COVID related phone calls must be made.
As a school, we are committed to keeping our students and staff safe. While it is no longer required or expected of schools to communicate, we have confirmed that multiple individuals associated with our school have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning from winter break. Families of students who are considered directly exposed to a COVID-positive person will receive a personal call from a Laurel Park front office member.
Many parents have already shared their child’s proof of vaccination when an exposure occurs, which we greatly appreciate and encourage. If you would like to submit a picture copy of your child’s vaccination card, please email the copy to ncwise467@wcpss.net with your child’s last name in the subject line.
As a reminder, please do not send your children to school and call us at 919-290-2333 for further guidance if:
Your child has ANY COVID-19 symptoms of illness.
Your child OR a household member tests positive for COVID-19.
You have been advised by the health department to quarantine due to exposure.
NOTE: to return to school after an illness, you MUST present a negative COVID test or doctor’s note stating an alternate diagnosis has been determined.
Please refer to the following link for more information: https://www.wcpss.net/WhenToReturn.

Lovett (clovett@wcpss.net o 919-290-2333 ext.
Saludos cordiales,
El equipo administrativo de LPE

Social Learning Update - January 2022
Social Learning Update!
New Year and new topics to cover in Social Learning! In 4th and 5th grade, we have been talking about using good sportsmanship and will be going into more depth about what it means to be a good friend, not falling for stereotypes, stopping the rumor and gossip mill and celebrating our differences. In 2nd and 3rd grade, we have been talking about D.O.F and I.O.F (Destroyer or fun and inventor of fun) which helps us be good sports. We will be talking about some more unthinkables such as Mean Jean, Blurt out Bob and the Unwonderer. In Kindergarten and 1st grade, we are just starting to learn about Superflex and how we can all be flexible thinkers. Some of the unthinkables we will learn about will be Rockbrain, who makes us get stuck on what we want, and Glassman, who gets really upset over small problems. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me by email, svitaglione@wcpss.net. Stay worm!
Wake Up and READ Book Drive
For a 4th year, Laurel Park Library will be a drop-off site for book donations for the WAKE Up and READ Book Drive. WAKE Up and READ believes that literacy is a right and all children need access to a high-quality home library.
From January 29 – February 28, WAKE UP and READ will collect new and gently-used books for children ages birth-12. These books are shared at schools, community centers and child care facilities across Wake County. Last year the Laurel Park community collected over 1,200 books to support WAKE Up and READ. Let’s do our best to reach a goal of at least 1,500 books! A collection box is at Laurel Park next to the front doors of the school.
Learn more about Wake Up and Read at www.wakeupandread.org.
Get Ready for our STEAM Fair!
The STEAM fair will be March 24th and students can start turning in projects to be displayed in the media center from March 16 - 18. Here is a project guide that may be helpful. Just make your own copy. I have examples of science experiments for students to get ideas on my website. The STEAM fair will be in person for students during the week of March 21-25. There will be a virtual part on starting on the 24th of March on a website. If your child wants to participate, please fill out the form which is also found on the project guide. There can be science experiments, engineering builds, dancing, musical performances, poems, and stories! If you don't want to do a science experiment, but just want to submit a video of any type, fill out this form. Video submissions can happen any time!
