👋 New principal for Initial Point
I'm excited to announce that Craig Miller will serve as the principal for Initial Point High School for the 2023-24 school year.
Craig has 26 years experience in education as a coach, teacher, and administrator with 21 of those years in administration. He has served in the Aberdeen, Bonneville, and West Ada school districts.
I'd like to thank Paul Souza who stepped in to serve as IPHS principal when Jason Reddy became our Technology Director.
🙋 You're invited to virtual growth committee next Thursday
Idaho law does not require impact fees from developers to offset the impact of growth on our schools. Our Board of Trustees has directed us to ask them to consider a voluntary contribution. This work was recently featured in an Idaho Education News story called: "Some Kuna developers volunteer to help pay for schools, others don't."
In addition to asking developers to voluntarily contribute, we are working to organize our community to get involved. You are invited to join our Growth Committee.
The committee facilitated by Director of Strategic Partnerships Danielle Horras meets virtually and discusses how to engage decision makers and help shape our city during this time of rapid growth.
➡️ The next meeting is 6 p.m. Thursday, May 18 find out how to access this virtual meeting here.
🗳️ Next Tuesday's election includes library trustee spot; no school items
Tuesday, May 16 is a election day. While some of our schools and buildings are polling places, there are no school items on the ballot. There is a race for Kuna Library District trustee.
➡️ You can find out more about the candidates and where to vote here.
⚠️ Kuna High hosts Governor Little for fentanyl awareness event
On Tuesday, Kuna High School hosted Idaho Governor Brad Little for Fentanyl Awareness Day. Students also heard a heartfelt message from Tarina Taylor, who tragically lost her son to a fentanyl overdose in 2021. Thank you to our Superintendent's Advisory Council and Assistant Superintendent Kim Bekkedahl for their work to educate our students and community.
📣 Celebrating our team!
Today's professional development day included a short recognition ceremony honoring our educators of the year (EOY), classified staff of the year (COY), and friend of education (FOE) for each of our school sites and a district support person.
🗓️ Looking ahead in our schools
