All PWCS office buildings will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 24th-25th, and on Wednesday, January 1st. We wish you a safe and well-rested holiday season with family and friends. See you in 2020!
Information about Standards-Based Grading
Students’ and parents’ interest may focus on the grade component of standards-based grading, but, the changes actually impact alignment, assessment, and grading to promote increased student progress. Initial stages of the Grading for Growth entail:
• Linking feedback to specific standards-based learning (“understanding animal adaptations,” instead of “project one” or “unit two”);
• Flexibility in devising the number and mix of needed assessments;
• Allowing students multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery of concepts and skills, when earned by efforts to improve;
• Using elementary, middle, and high school-specific rubrics to translate student progress to the short hand of letter or numeric grades; and
• Separating assessment and reporting of academic achievement from unrelated student behavior (removing conduct issues for understanding of what student have learned).
Candy Cane Sales!!!
Students, parents and guardians, MWES will be selling candy canes from Tuesday, December 17th - Friday, December 20th to support our PBIS Pride Pop-Up Shop. The shop provides prizes for students to buy with the PRIDE tickets they earn for showing positive behavior throughout the school. Candy canes are selling for 25 cents each and students cannot purchase more than 4 candy canes in one day. Come stop by one of the candy cane stations in the hallways when you come to school to purchase your candy canes!
