Washington County Fair Board Approves Livestock Auction
Update shared May 25, 2018.
OPPORTUNITY FOR CLUB MEETINGS
We have received a report that progress is being made on plans for the inaugural Market Animal Auction at the 2018 Washington County Fair. Sale eligible entries will include Market Beef, Market Hogs, Market Sheep and Market Meat Goats with each exhibitor eligible to enter one animal in this year’s auction. Efforts are currently underway to schedule dates when Auction Committee members can attend upcoming club meetings to give full details of the auction. Please contact Jeff Warren (402- 639-5256) or Rob Vogt (402-533-0787) to schedule a date. You can also find updates on auction activities as they become available through the Washington County Fair Livestock Auction page on Facebook.
Originally shared March 30, 2018.
At its March 20th meeting, the Washington County Fair Board approved the formation of a committee to launch a first annual auction of large animal exhibits in conjunction with the 2018 Washington County Fair. The inaugural auction is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 1st with sale animals scheduled to be on display in the Two Rivers Bank arena with the time yet to be determined.
Jeff Warren and Rob Vogt agreed to identify members of the initial committee with committee members representing each exhibit category that will be eligible to sell at the auction. Covered exhibit categories for 2018 will include Market Beef, Market Hogs, Market Sheep and Market Meat Goats. While many details of the auction are yet to be formalized it is anticipated that each exhibitor will be allowed one animal to the sale from the covered categories. Their sale entry will have to be an animal that they exhibited at the 2018 Washington County Fair and it will need to be available for immediate transfer. (i.e. It’s show career is over.)
The livestock auction is not a function of the Nebraska Extension faculty/staff or the Washington County 4-H Council. However, we are passing along the information about the auction and will provide additional details as they become available from the auction committee. For more information, contact auction chair, Jeff Warren at 402-639-5256 or jwarren@aptask.com.

Video Companion Animal Showmanship Contest
Youth will be judged on their showmanship presentation and animal knowledge. Open to youth over 10 as of January 1, 2018. Free registration. A video recording done by the county extension office will be submitted as the entry to be judged. Entries are now being accepted and will be accepted until August 10th at 5pm.
Youth who want to participate will need to make arrangements with their county extension office to video tape them giving their showmanship presentation. The county staff will record the presentation and ask the youth pre-determined questions (found on employee resources page). There are separate questions for intermediate and senior showmen and for each animal species. One way to do this would be to offer to tape youth after the conclusion of your county fair show so the youth and their animal are already prepared to present.
