Moving Forward

Thank you all for your conscientious effort on establishing authentic professional learning communities with your teams. The conversations you are having around learning are making a difference as we collaborate to design outstanding educational experiences for all of our students.

We are already at the midpoint of the first semester. You are doing great work and I am very pleased with how everything is progressing this year. I know that this is due to your expertise, grit, and dedication to Otto Middle School.

I am proud of you...thanks for keeping up the great work!

Critical Questions for Your PLC:

  1. What do we want students to learn?

  2. How do we know if students have learned?

  3. How do we respond when students don’t learn?

  4. How do we respond when students have learned?

All Things PLC

This site is a collaborative, objective resource for educators and administrators who are committed to enhancing student achievement.

Otto Reading Lounge

Our Reading Lounge is up and running! Our first groups of students have begun using the lounge and they are enjoying the experience. Don't forget that this resource is available for your class! Students are asking to return to the lounge after the first visit, and I know that the Reading Lounge will help foster a love of reading in our students.

Sixth Grade Strengths Academy

Our sixth graders have begun the journey of discovering their signature strengths. The students will participate in Bobcat lessons throughout the year that will help them understand their unique strengths as well as how to utilize them. Thanks to the sixth grade teachers for your commitment to this initiative.

To make dreams apparent to others and to align people with them [requires not just] mere explanation or clarification but the creation of meaning. —Warren Bennis

United Way Campaign

Thank you all for your participation in our United Way Campaign. Otto collected a total of $2,435, and easily surpassed our goal of $1,800! We had 52 staff members contribute to the cause. Special thanks to Ashley Besco for coordinating our campaign again this year.

Please join PTA if you have not yet done so. Otto Middle School consistently maintains 100% staff membership in our wonderful PTSA. Remember, 100% staff membership in PTA along with reaching our United Way goal earns everyone "jeans days" in December. New this year, our PTA is now a PTSA, meaning students can also participate.

Overcoming the Achievement Gap Trap

Our first book study PDH was informative and fun! Thank you all for your great participation and commitment as we delve into this work. Our goal is to ensure that no students are denied the opportunity to achieve their very best.
