BHS Newsletter
Winter Newsletter 1/28/21
Welcome to the Second Semester!
As we begin the second semester, please talk with your child(ren) and encourage them to be prepared and ready for class everyday. We know that being actively engaged, participating in class, and completing homework and assignments on time is essential for numerous reasons. The teachers have been working hard to engage students, prepare for both online and in-person at the same time. They are doing an amazing job! We need your support to encourage them to do their best to complete work on time and to participate in class!
Talk to your child about academic integrity. Help them understand why it is important to do their own work. Any student who uses devices, technology, or other tools to find answers or to submit work that isn't their own is a violation of the code of conduct. Cheating and plagiarism will result in a zero in both content mastery or work habits. Technology is amazing but it needs to be used to enhance their understanding of the content.
Second semester schedules are posted in ProgressBook! Students with semester classes may have different lunch periods, study hall rooms, and new electives. Semester teachers will send out invites to join their new classes by email. The new schedule will begin on Monday, February 1st.
All students get breakfast and lunch, FREE of charge, for the remainder of the year. Please encourage your child(ren) to get breakfast and lunch on their assigned days. You do not need to complete any forms unless you are having financial hardship. If you are having financial hardship, please complete this Free & Reduced Form and turn it into the grade level office.
Anytime a student or staff member tests positive, you will receive an email through the district alert system. If you have not received any, please check to see if your email has blocked them or sent them to your junk email. If you are not getting the alerts, please contact your child's grade level office, and they will assist.
Junior SAT Testing Day Wednesday, March 3, 2021
This year, Wednesday, March 3rd, BHS will administer the SAT to the junior class in person. Students will be assigned specific locations around the building. All social distancing and safety protocols will be in place. Mrs. Camino & Mr. Perry will be sending out information to the Class of 2022 over the next few weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Camino at jcamino@bcsoh.org.
There are many resources to help students prepare. Please visit the Ohio Department of Education for SAT Practice Tests.
College and Career Readiness Test
One of the pathways that students may use to meet the test requirement for graduation is a college and career readiness test. The two tests that meet this pathway are the ACT and SAT. Colleges and universities use the ACT and SAT to determine student readiness for the rigors of higher education. These institutions generally expect that students who earn "remediation-free" scores will be able to succeed in their college courses.
The Ohio Department of Higher Education works with Ohio universities to set the remediation-free scores for the ACT and SAT. Periodically, for a variety of reasons, these scores may be adjusted. State law requires the Ohio Department of Education to use the ACT and SAT remediation-free scores to meet the graduation requirements of the college and career readiness test pathway.
The Ohio Department of Education will communicate the remediation-free scores needed to meet the graduation requirement in spring of the students’ junior (grade 11) year before they take the state-sponsored test. For all high school juniors, the remediation-free scores set by Feb. 1 of their junior year will be used to meet their graduation requirement. Any changes after Feb. 1 each year will affect only future groups of students.
Students must earn “remediation-free” scores in each of the three subscore areas, two in English language arts and one in mathematics.
2021-2022 Scheduling Has Started Information Has Been Sent & Shared with Students in Grades 9, 10, & 11.

Starting this week you will be able to sign up for tutoring sessions with one of our National Honors Society student members. All remote and in-person learners will be able to sign up for 10 minute sessions that will take place over a Google Meet. BHS Schedule, Attendance, Homework, and Academic Integrity
BHS Schedule: February Schedule (Traditional Bell Schedule)
Homework, assignments, and assessing students is essential to help monitor student understanding and growth. Make sure to check ProgessBook for grades, completion of work, work not turned, and missing assignments. Not turning in or completing work will impact grades! Please take time to talk with your child(ren) about completing all work.
It is important to turn off all distracting devices which include TVs, cell phones, and music. Extensive time and planning have been put in place to teach. Please talk with your child(ren) about being on time, on task, and completing their work and assignments. Please check ProgressBook daily to help monitor your child's attendance, completion of homework, and grades. If you do not have access or have not set-up the Parent Access, please call the grade-level Office for help.
When students are joining by a Google meet and teachers are giving assessments or other assignments, any student who use other devices, technology (Google), or other tools to find the answers would be in violation of our code of conduct. Cheating and plagiarism, will not help you learn or master the standards. Students will be directed by teachers to close tabs, turn off devices, and to send images of their work to earn credit. Please talk to your child(ren) about academic honesty and integrity.
