School Pictures and Re-Takes

School pictures are here. Look for your student to bring them home early next week! If you would like them to be re-taken or didn't get them taken at the start of the year, please mark your calendar for October 1st, Picture Retake Day!

If you would like a retake - The student will need to return the entire envelope to the photographer on October 1st. Please do not drop off at the office.

If you didn't order, your student will receive a postcard with a preview photo and instructions on how to order.

Upcoming Athletics- Physicals Needed to Participate

Tryouts for Boys Basketball, Cheerleading, and Poms will be coming up at the beginning of October for 7th and 8th graders. Please be sure to have physicals on file and register on the 8 to 18 website.

Be Seen & Be Heard

Dear Parent or Guardian:

In accordance with a state mandate regarding Erin’s Law (Public Act 96-1524), Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 will be teaching the Be Seen and Heard©2.0 curriculum, a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse awareness program for students in grades K-8. Be Seen and Heard©2.0 is an age-appropriate, engaging curriculum created by professional speaker Victor Pacini that focuses on the difference between safe and unsafe touch and the importance of having trusted heroes, someone the child trusts and can turn to for help.

It is important to emphasize that, due to the sensitive nature of this topic, the information associated with this program is presented thoughtfully and varies depending upon a student’s grade level. Hannah Beardsley Middle School will present this program during the week of September 27th - October 1st . If you do not wish for your child to participate in this personal safety instruction, please submit your objection in writing to your child’s principal, Cathy Alberth ( by Friday, September 24, 2021.

If your child is not in attendance on the day and time of the presentation and we have not received an opt out notice from you, your child will be scheduled for a make-up presentation with a school clinician sometime within a few weeks of the above presentation date.

HBMS Pantry Info

We are grateful for our E-Free Church partners next door. They will be refilling our 2 pantries. One pantry is for food and the other is for hygiene products like diapers, shampoo, and deodorant. The pantries are open to the public all the time. So please feel free to contribute as you can and partake as you wish.

CICO- Check-In/Check-Out

We will begin our Check-In/Check-Out program next week, where selected students will be paired with a mentor to provide them with the encouragement and support they need to increase their level of self-awareness throughout the day. Students can be recommended by staff, parents, or even request a mentor themselves. This program is part of our school PBIS system. PBIS, Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports, is a tiered behavior system. Students at Crystal Lake District 47 may enter into different tiers throughout the school year in order to help support and encourage their social, emotional, and academic success. Please let us know if your student would benefit from this program. Students will be paired with a mentor and get feedback points throughout the day to monitor progress toward engagement goals.

This was a much-missed event last year, so we are geared up to make up for lost time! Volunteer opportunities are available. Please email the committee chair: with any questions.

Spirit Wear is back!!

Look for the PTO table for this year’s designs at HBMS home volleyball games. The PTO now accepts credit cards! Can’t make any of these events? Not a problem! Our more extensive on-line store opens on September 27th and runs through October 10th . Details coming soon!
