Leader in Me Program

Habit 5 is Synergize - 'two heads are better than one.' You might remember the Army advertisement "Army of One" a few years back. It was a short-lived slogan because it went against their mantra of 'teamwork.' You can't fight a war by yourself, likewise it's incredibly difficult to work through each day if you're trying to be completely self-sufficient. We need each other because we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Those differences are what makes Synergizing work. I have two daughters who are in college now (I cannot believe that :-)) but, thankfully, they both went through LISD schools. Many times they were assigned group work and the majority of the times I would hear 'the workload is not balanced' or 'we are doing more than they are.' Teamwork can be difficult but, in reality, our society is more productive if we Synergize. I wish my girls would have been exposed to The Leader in Me whenever they were in school. I found this Prezi that sums up this habit nicely.

October 19, 2016 - National Day of Unity.....Wear ORANGE!

"On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, color our nation, and even the world, in orange, showing that our society believes that no one child ever has to experience the physical and emotional pain of being purposefully hurt, harmed or humiliated. Send the message that every child deserves to feel safe from bullying while at school, online or in the community."

SRE emphasizes being "Safe, Respectful, and Encouraging." We don't have many true cases of bullying. Notwithstanding, we need to be reminded that our actions can have negative effects on others. I just met with our 5th graders and reminded them they are the student leaders of this school. Younger grades look to them as a model of how to treat each other in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, and recess. Our kids are looking at us as adults as well. Are we being the best role model we can?

Wear ORANGE on Wednesday!
