Notes from the Directors

Good afternoon, Mustang Band!

The first few days back to school have been GREAT! We are excited to experience the growth of the program over the next several months.

  • All-Region clinic and concert begins on Friday. All students and parents are encouraged to support our All-Region musicians at these concerts! (see below for more info).
  • Tomorrow are Area Auditions and we are proud for our students who are auditioning. They have been working extremely hard and sound AMAZING! Good luck - Megan, Abby, Kristen, Minna, Mikey, Preston, Joe and Lisa!!!!
  • Sectionals start Monday! Please consult the band calendar for your student’s sectional times! Each band will meet in sectionals and as a full group once per week. These times were decided in class based on each student’s availability and preference. Attendance is Mandatory for these rehearsals. Contact your band director Immediately for potential conflicts.
  • Side by Side Concert is on Tuesday evening at 6:30PM. Wind Ensemble will rehearse with all 8th graders in the band hall while a parent meeting takes place in the GHS library. Some students will also speak to the 8th grade parents at this event.
  • Mustang Nation is Wednesday 6:00pm. Stop by the Band and Guard booths to say hi and meet new people.
  • Piano parts for your solos are due to Ms. Irby TODAY.
  • If you are in a NEW BAND CLASS join the Remind (see below).

All Area Auditions

Area Auditions will be held at Coppell HS on Saturday, January 11, 2020.

**Students provide their own ride**

The audition schedule will be as follows:

  • Student Check-In Begins: 8:30am (Individual Rooms)
  • Auditions Begin: 9:00am

Students that have advanced to the Area round of the All-State process will audition at Coppell HS. Check in begins at 8:30AM and auditions start at 9AM. Room assignments will be available soon.

GCISD Solo & Ensemble Contest Info

Friday, Feb. 7th, 12am


Each student in the Mustang Band is required to perform a solo and ensemble at the GCISD Solo and Ensemble Contest on Friday, February 7.

Students are responsible for the registration fee of $8 per solo and ensemble ($16 total) as well as paying for their piano accompanist $40.

Monies should be turned in ASAP.

Booster Notes

  • Scrip credits from purchases between July and Dec 3, 2019 will be entered to student Charms accounts by Sunday, Jan 12. Please check your accounts and remit any balances due immediately.
  • Wednesday Jan 15 we have Mustang Nation night from 6-8:30. Please spread the word for your friends and incoming freshman to stop by the band table for more info about joining band.
  • There are several students that have outstanding payments on their Band Fee, Guard Fee (both fall and winter), and Indoor Percussion Fee. Please check CHAMRS to ensure you are up-to-date on all of your payments. Our programs rely on the fees being paid on-time in order to purchase necessary materials to perform. TMEA Region 31 Band Clinic and Concert

All-Region clinic and concert begins on Friday. There will not be a bus provided for this event, so please plan your transportation ahead of time! Rehearsals start at 6PM at the following locations:

  • 9th grade band: Central JH
  • Concert band: Trinity HS
  • Symphonic band: LD Bell HS
  • Wind symphony: LD Bell HS
  • Wind ensemble: Trinity HS

The All-Region performances will be on Saturday in the Trinity HS auditorium at these times:

  • 9th grade band: 4PM
  • Concert band: 5PM
  • Symphonic band: 6PM
  • Wind symphony: 7PM
  • Wind ensemble: 8PM

All students and parents are encouraged to support our All-Region musicians at these concerts!

Guard Update

The guard participated in a full clinic earlier this week before school started back and doing a great job. The new members are learning so quickly!! Our first show is Friday, January 24 and we cannot wait to perform our 2020 production "Colorblind." Our flags arrived yesterday and the floor is scheduled to arrive today. It is always exciting to get the new equipment in and see everything start to come together.

We are in need of a Guard Liason. This person would work alongside the Mr. Samuels, Mr. Redd, and the booster executive committee to help with the guard program.

The guard is also in need of volunteers to help with uniform fittings and alterations. The dates are TBD, but if you would like to potentially help email Mr. Redd (

Percussion Update

Indoor Percussion

We started rehearsals earlier this week. Over the break our floor arrived and we were able to unpack and see how great it looks. Opening a new floor for the first time is special experience for the performs and staff. It really creates a sense of excitement and energy.

Our show this year is called "Pull." Centered around a theme of gravity and utilizing our floor's galaxy design, the performers will constantly be pulled into the center of the black hole, and will always be fighting gravity's unstoppable forces.

Bands of America Honor Band

Join the 2021 Bands of America Honor Band in the Rose Parade
Bands of America (BOA) is accepting applicants for the 2021 Bands of America Honor Band that will perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA. Interested students can find more information here:

Will you represent Grapevine High School and GCISD in 2021? The BOA Honor Band is assembled once every 4 years--meaning each HS student only gets one opportunity to participate in the BOA Honor Band. This is your ONLY opportunity to be a part of this fantastic band.

If you have a broken school-owned instrument that needs repaired, go to the band website to fill out the repair form. Follow the directions carefully.

Lost Music Form

If you have lost your music and need a copy, WE HAVE A SOLUTION! The form must be completed 48 hours before the time you need music so the librarians can get you copies.
