October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month !
At Boone Schools we want your help to improve our cybersecurity and use the knowledge you get at work to help others take a safe and aware approach to cybersecurity. Through the remainder of October you will learn about these messages:
- Be Cyber Smart
- How you can take simple actions to keep our digital lives secure.
- Fight the Phish!
- We will highlight the dangers of phishing attempts—which can lead to ransomware or other malware attacks—and how to report suspicious emails.
- Explore. Experience. Share.
- I'll share information about cybersecurity careers which I hope you can pass on to your students
- Cybersecurity First
- Explore how cybersecurity and staying safe online is increasingly important as our world continues to operate virtually for so much of work and play.
I have attached a few PDFs that provide good information for parents and educators, and will be sending out more training resources throughout the next few weeks.
If you have more questions about how we are getting involved in this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month Campaign, please email me, or if you want to report suspicious activities to IT, please open a ticket at https://help.boone.k12.ia.us

EDGE Equity Summit
These students had a great day at the Equity Summit held by the Ericson Public Library at the Boone DMACC campus. Boone students created poster sessions or an art piece that related to the topic of equity and what it meant to them. It was a fun, meaningful event and process throughout!
This was the first event blending middle school students with high school students. Special shout out to the middle school students who introduced speakers and Leah Bloem who helped Dr. Zach Stier with event planning. Also, big thanks to both DMACC and the library for not only hosting and the event but also for lunch. HUGE props to Andrea Jordan for helping integrate these art and poster sessions into her WIN time and to Darci Newcomb at the middle school for leading our middle school students!
The Hooper Scoopers are back for the 2021-2022 DMACC Men's Basketball Season!
Your defending National Champion DMACC Bears would like to invite all 2nd - 8th grade students to sign up for the chance to be a Ball Boy/Girl for the Men's Basketball Team. There will be an opportunity for 4 students to participate at each home game. Each participant will receive a t-shirt to wear during the game that they will get to keep. They will also receive free entry into the game along with 4 passes for family/friends to get into that same game. Please arrive at each game 20 minutes (times on sign up reflect this adjustment) before tip off to receive t-shirt and instructions. We will meet in the upstairs weight-room, above the gymnasium. Finally, a parent/guardian must be present with each participant.
Pease sign up early as we anticipate this being a popular opportunity, and space is limited! Limit two games per student per season. When signing up, please be sure to include the school, grade, and shirt size (Youth Medium - Adult Large) of the participant. Go Bears!!!
YSS Mentoring Program - Update and Volunteer Opportunity!
The YSS Mentoring Program is looking forward to a return to in-person mentoring for the 2021-2022 school year! The program matches students in grades K-8th with a trained volunteer mentor once per week during the school day. These weekly meetings provide a positive, caring role model to eat lunch with, play games and simply talk about the student's interests and ideas.
Information and volunteer applications can be found at https://www.yss.org/program/mentoring.To learn how your child can become a participant, contact Tracy at boonementoring@yss.org or Heidi at hchopskie@yss.org.
Free School Breakfast and Lunch for all Students for the 2021-2022 school year
Tasty Toreador Meals - Supply Chain Issues
• This school year, thanks to federal pandemic waivers, all students will be eligible for free meals, regardless of family income.
• School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic.
• Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to have access to healthy meals each school day.
• Just as families have to make substitutions on grocery lists, schools will have to make some last-minute changes to our regular menus, based on availability.
• We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues.
• We may not have the same menu choices that we typically offer our students, but we’ll be sure that all students are nourished and ready to learn.
*Reminder: For students bringing a sack lunch and wanting school milk, there will be a .50 cent charge per carton.

Athletics Registration
Toreador Families,
Our "Online Athletics Registration" is live and active for the 2021-22 School Year (link is below). Please take the time to read through the information, and fill out the forms for your student. All students involved in District-Sponsored Athletics in grades 7-12 will need a completed online athletics registration on file, along with a current physical form (physicals are valid for 13 months after the date of the physical). There is a place within the registration to upload the completed physical form.
Completion of the Registration/Physical is not required for the attendance at any summer camps that may be offered. However, the Athletics Registration and Physical Form must be completed and on file before a student may physically participate in practice this Fall. For High School, this starting date is Monday August 9th. Middle School practices will begin a couple weeks later near the first day of school.

If you are in need of a specific Sports Physical, Boone Family Chiropractic is willing to assist, and they are planning to take $10.00 from every paid physical and donate that to the Boone Booster Club. Thank you to Dr. Zach Weisbrod and his staff for their support!
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns in this process.
Take care, and Roll 'Dors!
