Equally important is our own self-care. We learned during the pandemic that we should take care of ourselves, so we can better take care of our students, colleagues and families. You are invited to view a podcast from the Mindful Learning Project: Back to school already?! Emotions show up!
PBS
PBS content for all California public schools, no cost to local districts or charters.
Dear Team Members,
I wanted to share the following message with you:
The California State Library had a special announcement earlier this week: a robust collection of PBS programming is now available for all California K-12 public schools. Access is paid for at the state level so there's no direct cost to local districts or charters.
"Starting with the new school year in August, California public school students and educators will have access to over 1,200 streaming PBS videos covering topics in science, history, current events, music and drama," notes the release. The PBS Video Collection (Fourth Edition) from ProQuest, part of the Clarivate company, is the latest addition to the online resources the State Library makes available at no charge to California’s six million public school students.
“With topics ranging from science and history to art and Shakespeare, including early learning content, this partnership is a huge asset to our California students and educators,” said State Librarian Greg Lucas. “The collection also includes some well-known programs that originally aired on PBS, which are not only super educational but a delight to watch.”
This ongoing program is a unique partnership between the California State Library (the state’s version of the Library of Congress) and the Riverside County Office of Education to provide online library content that teachers and administrators can rely on being available year after year from the K-12 Online Content Project.
California K-12 students have had access to Britannica School and Escolar, TeachingBooks, and various resources from ProQuest (e.g. CultureGrams, SIRS Issues Researcher) and STEM resources from Gale (e.g. NatGeo Kids, Interactive Science) in recent years. The State Library is thrilled to be offering PBS streaming video for public schools now too.
The State Library has a training calendar for all the resources, or educators can view what's upcoming through the training catalog. These sessions are recorded so educators can review the sessions listed in the webinar archive. And the State Library has an e-newsletter (2x/month) with suggestions on how to use the content from these resources for inquiry-based learning, universal design for learning (UDL), and general educational support.
Please feel free to reach out if you or your staff and fellow educators have any questions about set-up and content for the PBS collection or any of the other resources.

COVID Updates
COVID Information:
All students are welcome at school and have the choice to wear a face covering or not. We strongly recommend that students wear a face covering but it is not required. We also encourage all students and staff to respect the choices of others as it relates to the wearing of face coverings.
The COVID Testing Center at MSMS remains open to serve our students and staff if they prefer to test at that location. Masks are REQUIRED at the Testing Center as it is a Medical Testing Facility.
Students will continue to test as needed, based on the presence of symptoms. This will be completed using Take Home/OTC Tests that will be available at each site's Health Office.
The new CDC/CDPH guidance indicates that the isolation/quarantine period is recommended to be five (5) days. There is no longer a need to isolate or quarantine for ten (10) days.
Students DO NOT need to provide a (-) Negative C-19 Test Result to return to work or school at any time. Even after testing (+) Positive and completing their five (5) day quarantine, they may return when they are without a fever (without the aid of a fever-reducing medication) for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving.
If you have any questions you may contact the COVID Test Center at 831-678-6460 x36568.
