News from Sanborn School

A Note from Mrs. Johansen
What an exciting spring we are having...and the fun continues! The "We are Family from A-Z" countdown to the end of the year has been so much fun! We've loved to see everyone coming in each day with the different themes.
We had fantastic support for the Sanborn PTA last week in their annual Walk-a-thon...with a COVID twist. Thank you to everyone who raised money and supported Kelly Bryant Radke as she coordinated a terrific event! We are so grateful for the Sanborn community as we came together to support this organization. Students who won prizes will find out tomorrow morning on Tiger TV.
Our Book Fair is currently in progress! Check out the flyers that are linked to this newsletter.
Next week is Bike to School day! To make sure our in-person and virtual learners can participate, we've included a link to a google form where virtual learners can document your participation. All student names will be entered into the raffle!
Please take a few minutes to read the "Return to Learn" section from Dr. Heinz, our Superintendent. Your input will be necessary as we are planning for learning in the 2021-2022 school year.
All in-person and virtual students (who have opted to come in) will be taking the IAR assessment next Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure everyone charges their Chromebooks.
Next week we are celebrating all of the Sanborn Staff in Teacher Appreciation week! Stay tuned for more information in a separate communication!
Thank you for another great week of learning and all your support!
Have a great week,
Erika Johansen

Return to Learn 2021-2022
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As we head into the final month of school, District 15 has begun to prepare how it will welcome students and staff back for the 2021-22 school year set to begin on Wednesday, August 18, for students in grades 1-8 and Thursday, August 19, for early childhood and kindergarten students. This year has presented both tremendous challenges, and has also taught us lessons in resilience, teamwork and the importance of our home/school partnership. Again, I thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding as we finish out this year and as we work to navigate the school year ahead.
While there are still unknowns around COVID-19, District 15 remains steadfast in its commitment to safely educate every student every day. Additionally, we are committed to continuing to provide a safe and supportive working environment for all 2,000 of our employees.
Members of my administrative team and I have spent the last few months collaborating on how to continue to mitigate risk and bring all interested students back to school safely this August. The steps we took this year, as well as our ongoing adherence to guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), have guided our decision making about how best to return to learn this Fall.
We again ask that you select an enrollment option for your child(ren) for the 2021-22 school year no later than Monday, May 3, 2021, as this information will be used at the school level for sectioning students into classrooms and at the District level for staff placement. Due to staffing constraints and capacity limitations in classrooms, once you have made your enrollment decision, we will not allow changes in placement due to the significant level of disruption it created to classrooms this year. Please know we will re-evaluate class placements if/when IDPH, ISBE and/or CDC guidance changes or when pediatric vaccines are widely available.
If we remain under the current guidance, the options for District 15 schools will be:
In-person instruction
Health and safety mitigations efforts will remain in place such as mandatory face coverings and physical distancing of 3 feet between students.
PreK-6 Virtual Learning Classrooms (VLC)
It is likely that students will be in a grade-level VLC with students from across the District. Attempts will be made to keep students from the same school together to the extent possible. Classroom composition will be determined by the number of students who elect to learn virtually.
Junior High students will be given two options:
In-person instruction (5 days a week) with ongoing health and safety efforts still in place such as masking and physical distancing of 3 feet between students.
Virtual Learning (5 days a week)
You will make the selection between in-person or virtual learning directly within your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. If you have not yet set up your parent portal account, please contact your child’s school office for assistance in setting up an account.
It is extremely important that parents/guardians complete this survey no later than Monday, May 3, 2021, so we are able to begin to create individual student schedules and staff appropriately for the upcoming school year. We thank you in advance for your prompt response to this important request.
Here’s How to Make Your Enrollment Selection within Your Infinite Campus Parent Portal
Campus Parent link: https://ic.ccsd15.net/campus/portal/parents/palatine.jsp or you are able to use the Campus Parent app on your smart phone.
Here is a link to step by step directions to follow in the Parent Portal to make your selection for full time in-person or virtual learning.
Should you have any questions, please reach out to our office staff for help. Thank you for your prompt attention to this selection request.
Sincerely,
Laurie Heinz, Superintendent
Bright Bytes Survey
Our school is partnering with BrightBytes, a data analytics organization built specifically for K-8 school districts, to provide insights into our new and changing learning environments with the goal of ensuring equitable learning support for all students. Last year, your participation helped us form a more complete picture of how learning is taking place and has allowed us to create targeted initiatives to support our teachers and students.
This year’s survey is designed to capture your perspective around your child’s classroom support and resources (e.g., access to technology, instructional support, and student social-emotional competencies). It doesn’t matter whether your student is learning-- in-person or virtually-- the survey is designed for any learning environment.
We are requesting that you take part in this important school survey. Your responses will remain anonymous to protect your privacy. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
The last day to complete this survey is May 7, 2021. Please respond using the link below:
Your participation is extremely important to us. It will give us a comprehensive understanding of our students’ needs and areas for improvement at our school. As always, thank you for your ongoing support of Sanborn School.

Online Student Registration
Online student registration for the 2021-22 school year is now open. If you have not already started this process for your student(s), please visit our registration page to start this process.
Registration is the first step in getting ready for the up-coming school year. After you register your child online you need to:
Pay student fees. Our student fee webpage outlines the District’s student fee structure and the three ways fees can be paid.
If you have a student that is starting Kindergarten, entering fourth grade, or entering 7th grade, you are required to prove residency in District 15. Our residency webpage outlines the documents you will need to provide to prove residency. All D15 schools’ front offices will be open until 7pm on June 8 and 10 for anyone needing assistance to register their child online or prove residency.
All three steps of the enrollment process must be completed prior to the start of the school year. Families that do not register and, when required, prove residency will not receive information about their school’s school open house event, teacher assignment, class schedule, or bus route until registration is complete.
