Sparling Newsletter

November 2021

Dear Families,

Can you believe it is already November? Time seems to be flying by and it has been busy here at Sparling. Our free weekly hot lunch has been a big hit with our students and this week we have Chicken Noodle Soup on Wednesday!

Sparling is growing! You will notice fencing has been put in place at the north end of our building in preparation of a new modular classroom set to arrive in January. It is important to remind our students not to climb on this temporary fencing both during and after school.

Report Cards will be going home on November 19 and IPP's will follow nearing the end of November. Everyone should have received a time to speak with your teacher on Nov. 9 during our virtual/phone parent teacher conferences. We are excited to share your child's learning progress on this evening!

In this newsletter you will find information regarding report cards, school picture retake date, Sparling Market information, and our next School Council Meeting date.

Report Cards and Powerschool Information

Report Cards will be distributed on Nov. 19, 2021 for Sparling School. This will also be the day our Powerschool goes live and parents will be able to access information via the web or Powerschool App. Please see the following information from BRSD regarding our new report card format.

Battle River School Division has moved to the PowerSchool Gradebook system. You may have already been into your child’s PowerSchool gradebook and viewed the information regarding your child’s academic progress. Along with this new gradebook we have a new report card format. Right now, this report card format is very different from past year’s report cards. It is extremely basic in how it pulls information from the gradebook system. For students in Grades 1 to 6, the learning outcomes your child covered over this term will not appear on this report card. Grades 7 to 12 report cards look different but overall contain the same information. Our teachers have written detailed comments to provide you with a deep understanding of your child’s progress to date.

We are working to develop a new report card for second term that will look more like our “old” report card format. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s report card please contact your child’s teacher.
