Back-to-School Night
Each teacher will offer three sessions (5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.) for families to attend. One of these sessions will be in Spanish. To see our Back-to-School Night schedule, click HERE.
Teachers will share important information regarding class schedules, school expectations, homework, communication tools, and more! Please plan on attending sessions for your child's homeroom teacher, as well as specialist teachers, such as Spanish, Art/Science (gr K-2), and Learning Center (if applicable).
Zoom links will be provided to families the day before the event.
Title I Parent Meeting
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that Title I schools hold an annual meeting for parents about Title I. Title I schools receive Title I federal funding to supplement the school's existing programs. The purpose of this meeting is to inform parents of the school's participation in Title I, explain the requirements of Title I, and explain parents' rights to be involved. Attending this meeting is optional for parents. A zoom link will be provided to families the day before the event.
Building Home Libraries
Providing students with books for their home libraries is part of our commitment to literacy and ending book deserts. "Access to print resources—board books, stories, and informational books—early on has both immediate and long-term effects on children’s vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension skills. And while public libraries are critically important in giving families access to books, research has shown that the presence of books in the home is related to children's reading achievement" (original reference).
Unite for Literacy offers children's books read aloud in English, Spanish, Hmong, and other languages, as well as an interactive map that tracks access to books around the world.
Save the Date!
Building Home Libraries Here are some of the books that our students took home on Friday. Students get to keep these books and add them to their home library! | Middle School Band Our middle school band students enjoy a fantastic student-teacher ratio. This enables lots of individualized instruction and feedback. A big thanks to our band teacher, Mr. Rivera! | Conceptual and Hands-on Learning GLC is committed to providing hands-on instruction that builds students' conceptual understanding. Here students are recording data from their science experiment. |
