TPCA Welcomes New K-4 Principal, Erica Buchanan

Traders Point Christian Academy is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ms. Erica Buchanan as the new K-4 Principal and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She will assume her new role on Monday, April 6.

Ms. Buchanan has served as an elementary teacher, an Assistant Principal, and most recently, as Principal of Sunnyside Elementary in Lawrence Township for the last four years. In her first year as Principal, Ms. Buchanan led Sunnyside from a “C” rating to an “A” rating which the school has continued to receive every year under her leadership. After achieving such a dramatic turnaround at Sunnyside in a short period of time with a diverse and rapidly growing population, Ms. Buchanan was invited to speak about her school-wide measures on the National Public Radio (NPR) and the Amos Brown Show. She also appeared on the Indy Style Show to promote her magnet focus of International Studies. One year later, her building was a recognized as a National Magnet School of Excellence in 2013. The following year, she was recognized as the 2012-2013 Lawrence Township Administrator of the Year.

Ms. Buchanan graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early and Middle Childhood Education. She holds an Indiana K-6 teaching license and an endorsement in Mild Intervention for Special Education. In 2010 she received a Master’s Degree in Administration from Butler University.

Ms. Buchanan is an active member of New Beginnings Fellowship Church, and is excited to share her passion for education and extensive academic leadership experience in a Christ-centered environment.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Ms. Buchanan to the TPCA family!

....And don't worry-the wonderful Mr. Schaffer is still here too!! As TPCA student enrollment continues to grow, so does the need for additional faculty and administration to continue to meet the high standard of excellence in all areas for our students.

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Schaffer, TPCA's current K-6 principal, will assume the role of middle school/junior high principal (grades 5th-8th) next year. Mr. Schaffer is excited to lead the charge of taking our middle school and junior high to the next level both academically and spiritually. Pray for him and our faculty as they partner with parents to guide our students through this period of rapid physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.

TPCA Movie Night TOMORROW!!!

Our movie event is tomorrow night! It's not too late to order tickets through our site. Sign up now at

It is support from groups like ours that is enabling the Christian film industry to keep making these wonderful movies. We are showing Hollywood what families really want to see!

Dear Traders Point Families:

Over the last six years, the TPCA Dad's Club has sought various ways to serve the Traders Point students and families, the community and each other. Every so often we get a chance to bring a message of faith to the community in which we live. Last year, in partnership with PureFlix Entertainment, we brought "God's Not Dead" to the Traders Point AMC. We are blessed to have the opportunity again with a new movie by PureFlix Entertainment called "Do You Believe?"

These movies are released quite differently from typical Hollywood movies. They require a sponsorship. The TPCA Dad's Club is sponsoring this movie so that it can be shown on the Northwest side of Indianapolis. Without this sponsorship, this movie would not be available in our area. The Dad's Club does this to spread the word of God to as many in the community as possible. With the help of a generous donor family, we buy out an entire theater and offer the tickets to you at a discount to make sure the opening weekend is an absolute sell-out.

On Saturday, March 21st, 6:30pm at the Traders Point AMC we will offer a private screening for all our friends and family. Come join us for a night of fun and worship!

"God's Not Dead" told the stories of different people, from different circumstances, challenging and defending that God is surely alive. Similarly, the characters in "Do You Believe" are faced with whether or not they believe in God… And if they do, what are they going to do about it? The movie is rated PG-13 due to some thematic elements, so please be aware of that. If you need more information on the movie, go to

The tickets are on sale for $6 per ticket until 3/14. After that the price of the tickets will increase to $8 per ticket. In order to encourage you to purchase your tickets early, we will be having give-aways each day starting tomorrow for those who have registered. Your name will remain in the pool each day (removed only if you win). In addition, the first 100 guests will receive a "Do You Believe?" movie bracelet. We are doing everything we can to encourage you to sign up early. So please don't wait! Sign up now at

All are welcome...not just TPCA families, but guests, friends, family, neighbors, life groups - whomever! The last few movies we have done were complete sell-outs and it's been a blast. We hope that you can come and join us this time.

March Madness Fabulous Four

Competition is increasing! This morning Northwestern came out of nowhere to take the lead! Then this afternoon, here comes OHIO STATE!!! The Buckeyes mean business!

#1 — Ohio State ($200)
#2 -- Butler ($150)
#3 -- Northwestern ($100)
#4 -- Purdue ($92)

Is your favorite school represented? Send your basketball and contribution and help your team rise to the top!

Let’s have fun with March Madness again this year—but with a NEW TWIST!

We are lining the halls with basketballs representing gifts made to Traders Point from MARCH 9—APRIL 6. Decorate your basketball (click here for basketball) with your favorite college team and your NAME. Then return it to school with your gift. No gift is too small, ALL balls will be displayed, and your donation (gift amounts remain anonymous) will be added to the total for your team.

We will keep a running total for each team throughout. Daily results for the “FABULOUS FOUR”, the top four teams of the day, will be posted in the Eagle’s Nest, at EC and on Facebook and Twitter! The WINNING TEAM will be announced on April 6th. The winning team’s school flag will be flown on our flagpole for a week and then displayed in the Eagle’s Nest for the rest of this school year.

Your gift is added to your favorite College Team’s TOTAL. The team with the highest total WINS!

Have Fun and Good Luck!

SGO Giving - and Receiving – Opportunity

URGENT UPDATE: Because this opportunity is becoming more well known, more Indiana donors than ever are participating. For the first time, the $7.5 million fund will likely be used up before the end of the fiscal year. Only $821,000 remains in the account. Organizations state-wide are rallying to make sure their gifts are made before this fund runs out. Therefore, we are notifying all of our donors and potential donors of the new urgency to make sure gifts are made as soon as possible before the opportunity for the 50% credit is gone. Traders Point's need is still $63,000, so it is imperative that we raise this amount as soon as possible.

Three years ago, TPCA established a scholarship fund through Sagamore Institute called the SGO. The SGO is a result of the Indiana School Tax Credit Program and is a special scholarship that helps qualifying families better afford to send their kids to the school of their choice. Traders Point Christian Academy awards SGO Scholarships to qualifying families. Then both Sagamore and Traders Point work throughout the year to raise these scholarship funds through donations. However, there are two more partners involved; the state of Indiana and you, the donor.

Every year Indiana allocates $7.5 million in tax CREDITS for SGOs to offer individuals and businesses as INCENTIVES for funding these scholarships. This means a gift to Traders Point's SGO fund entitles you to at least 50% off your gift (more savings through federal deductions if you itemize and depending on your tax bracket)!

For example, let's say you owe the state $1,500 in taxes. If you give a gift of $3,000 (double what you owe), you will receive $1,500 back in tax credit. Your out of pocket is still only $1,500, but Traders Point receives a $3,000 gift (less a 10% fee from Sagamore)! In fact, with the additional federal deduction, your gift could cost you less than $1,500!

If you have state tax liability, this opportunity is quite valuable. It gives you the ability to provide a substantial gift to the school, provides benefit regarding your tax liability, and most importantly, gifts our students with an education that will impact them for eternity!

Card holders may begin enrolling & re-enrolling their cards to support our school now. The link is Our school code is: 28886.

Each time you shop with your Fresh Ideas Card you earn points for Traders Point. We use these points to order equipment and supplies at the end of the year. It is a convenient and simple way to support our school. Thank you for taking a minute to sign up!

So far we have had only 15 shoppers sign up. It's quick and easy – just click on the link, enter your Fresh Ideas card number, and indicate Traders Point. Thank you!
