Criminal law consists of laws written by congress and state legislators that make certain types of behavior illegal and punishable by fines or imprisonment. In a criminal case the actions of the defendant are considered to have been serious enough to make him or her a threat to the public ,not just to the victim in the case.

Battery-One person intentionally and without permission, touches or harms a second person as a result.
