Weekly Information for our Grizzly Community

20-21 School Year

Galindo Families,

As we begin to prepare for the 2020- 20201 school year, please know that we are held to the decisions that the district makes, and we are still waiting to learn most of it right alongside you. Our top priority at Galindo is the safety of our students, families, and staff. We know this uncertain time can be difficult for everyone, please know we are working very hard to prepare the best learning environment for our Grizzlies. While we are still learning a lot about what school will look like this year, we wanted to share the information that we know right now.

Important Announcements

3 Week Virtual Start: AISD announced a 3 week virtual start for all students beginning on August 18th. That means we will begin by having classes through Zoom, BLEND, and Seesaw. Last year, students in 3rd through 5th grade were given laptops. If the laptop you received is not working well or needs to be fixed, you can take it to Crockett High School Curbside Computer repair to have it serviced. Call our main line for more information. All students in PK-2nd grade and 2nd graders rising to 3rd grade will receive devices for our virtual start. AISD is working on a request form that will be located in the parent cloud. It’s not live yet, but we will let you know when it is. Our office staff can also help request a device for your student when they become available.

School Supplies: We don’t want to add more stress to your plate, so we are excited to be partnering with Galindo PTA to provide all school supplies for every student this year. No need to go out to Walmart or HEB to buy anything. We will be putting together a packet for the first 3 week of at home learning for your students to use along with the virtual instruction. Stay tuned for details for the curbside distribution.

Virtual Popsicles in the Park: We will host a virtual edition of our annual Popsicles in the Park. Join us on Zoom on August 3rd at 5:00 pm to meet our new counselor, learn about AISD’s reopening plans, and say hi. Please use this Zoom Log in: Natascha Barreto-Romero is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Returning Student Registration: All students who attended Galindo last year will need to online register. If you haven’t done so yet please call our main office at 512-414-1756 and we can help walk you through it. Since we are starting virtually, we can also temporarily place your child on a class list while you work on getting registered so you don’t have to worry about missing the deadline for the start of school. We know there are a lot things everyone is dealing with and we hope to make registration a bit easier for you. Give us a call with any questions you have.

Registration for PK 3 or Students who are New to Galindo: We will be holding curbside registration starting August 3rd from 9:00 - 11:00 and 1:00 -3:00 in our front drive through parking lot. Curbside registration is simple, you drive up, call the number on the banner, and we will come out to help you. Registration will be completely contactless. We ask that you place any documents you need to turn in in your trunk or on our curbside cart, and we will grab them, make copies, and return them. We will also have an outside space available for walk up registrations. We ask that everyone stay in their car and social distance during this time. No parents, students, or other adults will be allowed in the building at this time. New students can also register online using the parent cloud and then use the curbside service to drop off the documentation. You will need the following documentation if you are enrolling a new student:

  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Child’s social security card (optional)
  • Child’s immunization records
  • Child’s withdrawal form/last report card (if applicable)
  • Parent/guardian photo ID
  • Proof of guardianship (if applicable)
  • Proof of residency

Returning to Face to Face Instruction: We are still learning more information about how AISD will return to Face to Face instruction inside the building. We do know that parents will get to choose what works best for their families. Beginning August 5th, our teacher assistants will be calling you and asking what your preferences are and answering any question you may have about returning to the building. When and if we do return to the building, students’ safety will be our top priority.

Extend-A-Care: Extend-A-Care is currently providing child care on our campus. They have child care classes with 10 students per class. Registration for this child care is open to the public, and while there is a weekly fee, you can apply for a scholarship if needed. More information can be found at the EAC website or by calling our main office.
