Eau Claire HS Shamrock Update

January 2022 Parent and Community Newsletter

Eau Claire High School's Mission...

Our mission is to provide all students with a high-quality education that leads to productive citizenship in a global society.

School Safety and Security

Dear Parents and Guardians:

As you may remember, there was an incident on our campus at dismissal on December 17 where gun shots were fired near our bus loop. Your cooperation and support is absolutely necessary in helping us keep our campus safe.

Please remember to:

  1. Routinely check your students’ book bags and other personal items that they’re bringing on campus to make sure they are only bringing items needed for instruction or after school extra-curricular practices and games. No weapons of any kind (ex. Guns, knives, Taser guns, cans of mace, brass knuckles, etc.) are allowed on campus at any time.
  2. Speak with your student in regards to their relationships with others and report any instances of bullying or intimidation to a school administrator.
  3. Review their social media accounts for possible disagreements or threats with others and report any potential threats to our school administrators.

Our faculty, staff, and school resource officer will continue to work diligently to protect our students during the school day but your help is needed where our reach does not extend after they leave our campus.

Attendance Reminders and Updates

Please make sure your students report every day by 8:00 am!

Students arriving after 8:30 am will remain in ISS until the end of 1st period.

Attendance Policy and Procedures

At Eau Claire High School, we take daily attendance. A student is coded absent for the day if he/she is absent from 3 or more of their assigned classes for that day. When students accumulate three days in a row or a total of five unexcused days at any time in the school year, parents will be contacted to schedule a meeting to discuss the absences and develop an Attendance Intervention Plan (AIP). Should the student continue to accumulate unexcused absences, ECHS will prepare a truancy petition requiring the parent and student to appear before a Judge in Family Court.

Attendance and Grades

Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school regularly. Students who are absent from a class for 10 or more days from a yearlong class or 5 or more days from a semester class will not receive credit for that class and will receive a grade of Failure due to attendance (FA).

Excused (Lawful) Absences

A student who is absent from school must present a note to the attendance office within 48 hours of his/her return to school. ECHS has placed on its website, under “Quick Links”, an easy to complete form to report student absences. No more than 10 parent notes can be accepted during a school year.

Excused Absence Notes are submitted here

Reminder Notes from our Nurse Tiffany Davis, RN:

If your student is sick, please make sure you keep them at home and make our our school nurse aware that the student is sick. Also, please be sure to call and make the school or school nurse aware if someone in the household has tested positive for COVID.
