Cougar Community Connection
A Newsletter From Your Principal, Shannon McPherson
A Letter From Shannon 9/22/22
It was a short week but nonetheless filled with lots going on. We finished up the Read a Thon and appreciate all of the support that our fantastic community showed. With the budget crisis that our school district is in, we continue to feel so lucky that we have such a supportive community when it comes to fundraising. We are still able to offer programming that otherwise would be difficult with out the fundraising support from our community. Thank you so much for all you do to make Cougar Run the best neighborhood school in the county! Parent/teacher conferences were a great success. We value the partnership that we are able to create and foster with our parents and coming to conferences is a great way for us to connect and talk about growth and progress of our kids. Following conferences this week was our district professional development day on Friday where our teachers continued more training in our new Wonders literacy resource. Lots of great feedback was shared about the training and the quality of this new resource. We are jazzed about the rigor and relevance that this new resource is bringing to our students and watching them learn and grow as readers and writers. We look forward to diving back in this week to uncover more components of this incredibly robust curriculum.

November 8th Bond/MLO
As you may know, the Douglas County School District is considering an initiative to help address funding challenges in our school district. Additional funding would be critical for us here at Cougar Run. Our staff is amazing and absolutely dedicated to our students and they deserve pay that is more competitive with other school districts - this will help us retain the amazing teachers and support staff that work with your kids every day. Additional funding would also enable our school to continue to make necessary upgrades and repairs to provide your student with a comfortable and safe learning environment.
Please watch this video and share it on your own social media page(s) so others can understand how schools such as ours are funded. Talking to our taxpayers in Douglas County will take all of us working together!Upcoming Important Dates
