Patriot Post
August 16, 2019
Dear Corley Families,
Welcome to the start of a new school year! We've had an awesome first two weeks of school and our returning Corley Patriots are setting a great example for our new students.
A strong partnership between home and school will make a great difference in your child’s education. We invite all parents to place August 29, 2019, on their calendar for our Fall Semester Curriculum Night and Parent Workshops.
Parents will be able to visit classrooms to find out what students will be learning this semester and how to support their child at home. Additionally, we will be providing tours of our Corley Parent Center, showcasing eClass for parents, and assisting families with MyPaymentsPlus accounts or Free/Reduced Lunch applications.
Our Parent Center is open each afternoon Monday - Friday. Parents are encouraged to check-out materials and resources to support their child's learning at home. Ms. Lyzbet Castillo, our parent center coordinator, is looking forward to working with you this year.
In an effort to increase parent communication and support, our Patriot Post will be published each week this year. Also, grade level newsletters will be sent home with each Progress Report and Report Card.
Literacy continues to be our focus this year. Please read with your child often and talk to them about what they are reading.
We are looking forward to a great year!
Warmly,
Ruth Tomlinson
Principal
Local School Council
If you are interested in serving on our 2019-2020 Local School Council please submit your name for nomination to be a member of Corley’s School Council. This is a group of teachers, parents, and business people that work with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. SAFETY AND SECURITY
The Gwinnett County School System has always taken the safety of its students very seriously. This year there are a few additions to the already existing procedures schools have in place.
- Prior to entering a school, visitors will be asked about the purpose of their visit.
- All volunteers must first check in and then will be escorted to our Parent Center were volunteer opportunities are coordinated.
- Each school will have a safety committee comprised of staff and community representation, to review, monitor and create safety policies.
- All visitors are required to check in and wear a visitor’s badge. Visitors will be asked to return to the front office if a staff member does not see the visitor’s badge.
- All visitors must show county identification or a driver’s license.
- Schools will continue to conduct fire, tornado, and soft and hard lock-down drills.
As schools become more diligent with student safety, we ask that families talk about and practice safety measures at home.
