National Storytelling Week
Once upon a time, in a land before TV and iPhones, storytelling was a way to pass the time, to entertain, and to teach each other new ideas. From cave paintings to the electronic books of today, storytelling is a vital way to preserve history and share knowledge. This is a week to share the power of stories, especially our own. What is your story, what are your family’s historical tales? Have your family create their own storytelling night. You can find Jarrett Krosoczka’s story (memoir) in the North LRC-Destiny Discover.
Hey, Kiddo
His mom is an addict, in and out of rehab, and in and out of Jarrett's life. His father is a mystery; Jarrett doesn't know where to find him, or even what his name is. Jarrett lives with his grandparents…[going] through his childhood trying to make his non-normal life as normal as possible, finding a way to express himself through drawing... Only as a teenager can Jarrett begin to piece together the truth of his family, reckoning with his mother and tracking down his father. Hey, Kiddo is a profoundly important memoir about growing up in a family grappling with addiction and finding the art that helps you survive.
