Special Edition: Distance Learning Plan
MISD eNewsletter: April 3, 2020
Dear Muenster ISD students and families,
Our teachers, along with campus principals, have worked hard to develop a Distance eLearning Plan to support students in their learning during our COVID-19 school closure which is now through Sunday, May 3rd, 2020. Below you will find details of the Distance eLearning Plan.
Our Distance eLearning Plan will run on a Monday-to-Sunday basis, as you will see below. This way, families will have time to plan out their child’s learning time for the coming week based on the needs of the family. It also gives students and families time to complete lessons during the following weekend, if that best meets the family’s needs.

Learning Plan
Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020, students and families in Pre-K through twelfth grade will receive no more than three (3) weekly lessons for each of the following content areas – every Monday:
- Reading/Writing
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
Each lesson will take less than one hour to complete. The weekly lessons will be added to the Canvas Distance eLearning website each week. In addition, each teacher may send an email, Remind message, or schedule weekly video conferencing each week with more information about each lesson.
Beginning Monday, April 13, 2020, students in grades 7th - 12th will begin receiving lessons from their elective courses.
Other optional daily activities beyond the content lessons will also be provided through our Distance eLearning Enrichment Resource page, such as:
- Reading a book
- Writing a story
- Practicing reading skills and math facts
- Engaging in Fine Arts and P.E. activities
Each teacher will establish daily hours when they will be available for students or parents to contact them for help and support.
Teachers will provide support and feedback to students throughout the week in a variety of ways, such as:
- Phone calls
- Email correspondence
- Zoom meetings (password protected, one-on-one, small group, whole class)
- Remind 101 text messages
- Chats via SeeSaw, Google Classroom, Google Hangout, etc.
Each teacher will set daily hours when they will be available for students or parents to contact them for help and support. During this time, teachers will also be providing feedback to students based on their work. Teacher hours and email address will be shared with the students. Additional support for students in special programs will be provided. Online resources and lesson extensions will also be provided.
Please note: Students without internet access should email their principal or teachers, or call your child’s principal and leave a message. We will work closely with families without access to technology or the internet.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of our teachers, staff, and administrators. We miss you and look forward to all being together again! We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate these changes. We are making all decisions with the goal of best serving our students and their needs. We look forward to partnering with our families as we work together to support our students and their learning. Together, we will continue to educate our Muenster ISD students, because KIDS COME FIRST.
Sincerely,
Steven Self,
Muenster ISD Superintendent
Distance Learning is Online
The plan for instruction is to begin on Monday, April 6th, 2020. All student work will be available from your Canvas Dashboard. Students must be logged into their MISD Google account to access the work in Canvas. Teachers will also be sending information to students through email, Remind, and posts in online classrooms.
Students & Parents, make plans to check your school email for communications from your teachers. Be sure to check your SPAM or JUNK mail for missing email communications.

Apart We Stand Together
We miss our students, and hope you are all well. This important message about COVID-19 will help to keep you safe and healthy. The most important thing you can do right now is stay at home! If that’s not possible, practice social distancing by staying 6 feet from others. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and countertops. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, and cover a cough or sneeze with your elbow. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 – a fever, dry cough, or shortness of breath, call your doctor. Remember, by staying apart now, we can all be together again faster!
