I read an article this week on the way pride grows in our hearts. The author, Jaquelle Crowe list 7 specific ways to include: fear, entitlement, ingratitude, people-pleasing, prayerlessness, hypocrisy, and rebellion.
I must admit, that I myself have been guilty of pride in my life. To be honest, sometimes I wish that the pride in my life was the obvious blatant kind that prompts friends and loved ones to "call me out" but far to often the pride in my life is of the subtle variety. When I chose my own will in small ways over and against the will of God, my pride resurfaces with a vengeance. The author summed up her thoughts nicely when she said, "Because of his humility, we can be forgiven of our pride. That’s both the sting and the joy of the gospel. It deals with our pride by destroying it, reminding us that life is not about us, and that we deserve only the wrath of God. Jesus also deals with our pride by taking the just punishment for it on himself, that we might be renewed in the image of our Creator (Col. 3:10) and made humble like our Savior. Being humbled is not smooth or painless, but it’s the daily rescue we need. Hallelujah to the Redeemer we have." I have included the article below for those who would like top read in more depth. God Bless!!!!!
