Prosper High School Newsletter
September 1, 2019
A Note from Dr. Burdett
Eagle Nation,
We had a great week at PHS! The building is alive and buzzing with our kids and what a wonderful opportunity we have to serve each of them every day! We are currently at 4,085 students and I am proud of how our kids are handling the growth, taking care of each other, and taking care of themselves. We are in exciting times in Prosper ISD and our kids are AMAZING!
What an exciting night we had on Friday for the opening of Children's Health Stadium at Prosper ISD. The Choir was angelic, pride filled the stadium as our Prosper ISD Police, the Prosper Fire Department, and our Veterans held the American Flag. The flyover was "out of this world" and how about the bald eagle flying into the stadium! Our Cheerleaders, Talonettes, and Band did an incredible job!!! Congratulations to our Football Team on our 1st win ever in the new stadium and our 1st win for the 2019 season!
Congratulations are also in order for our Girls XC Team for placing 4/29 and congratulations to our Boys XC Team for placing 15/33 at the Marcus Invitational- Elite Division.
In the first newsletter this year, I was able to show the continued increases in academic achievements of our students. As we receive more information on our academic achievement, I will share these as well. Recently, we received more information on the Advanced Placement (AP) results of our students. As you can see below, our students continue to excel. I am very proud of the work our teachers do to prepare our students to be successful on their AP exams. To assist our students and teachers with bolstering our learning, we have extended Eagle Time to 38 minutes every day. Eagle Time is an excellent opportunity for ALL students to close learning gaps or extend their learning. Please have a conversation with your student on how they are using Eagle Time to benefit them academically.
Seniors, please see the information below on a FREE SAT we are offering at PHS on October 16th. We are excited to be able to offer this to our Seniors during a regular school day and to do it for FREE.
We made an adjustment to the traffic flow for students coming from/going to the Learning Cottages and the MPF and this has made a world of difference in getting students to class. We continue to encourage students to use the upstairs for travel because it is less congested. Please see the map below for the updated traffic flow. We appreciate your patience as we are checking parking stickers during early release times. I was able to speak to several parents when I stopped cars to let them know why we are making sure that the only students leaving campus are the ones with early release. This helps to ensure the safety of our students and I appreciate our teachers, security guard, and administrative staff for standing out in the heat to ensure the safety and security of our kids. Speaking of safety and security, thank you to our Watch D.O.G.S. who volunteered to be at PHS last week! If you would like to volunteer as a Watch D.O.G.S., please see the information below. We would love to see more parent Watch D.O.G.S. walking the halls at PHS!
Please look at the calendar and see what you can attend. Our students would love to see you supporting them and noticing how our inputs are affecting our outcomes.
